Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Need a pic of 'drive side' or do you know the brand component levels of gears, shifters, brakes, each derailleur. Size of frame? What wheels/rims
are these?

This is my sister in laws bike. She said she does not want it anymore and gave it to me and my wife, we do not cycle and were wondering the value.

Should be written on each of the components themselves i.e Shimano Ultegra, Shimano Sora. Drive side pics may help to determine gearing sizes of chainrings and rear cassette.

www.bikepedia.com will lists original MSRP per most common components associated with it. Though, people can swap out components.

this seems really, really implausible, no offense. (as if that works... go ahead and be offended. )

why did she give you a *very* high end bike if she knew you guys didn't ride?

It looks more like a Trek 5900 than Madone. A 2009 Madone frame has an oval shaped seat mast/cap, slightly curved and rising top tube, and bulkier looking (though not heavier) frame. (due to BB90)

2004 Trek 5900 Superlight:

Or maybe it's a 2005 Madone SL:

Yeah, that's definitely *not* a 2009 Madone 5-series. It's an '07 or before. In '08 they completely changed the frames, and that certainly isn't an '08+ 5-series frame.

There should be some kind of decal on the bottom of the frame giving you more detail. Call Trek if you need help finding out what it is.

One thing I see is that ere appear to be welds at the connections on the frame. That smells like aluminum frame to me and aren't Madones carbon?

Looks like it says OCLV on the frame, so I believe it is carbon. Plus, it does have a project-one style of paintjob on it.

That looks like a 2007 and is likely equiped with 105 Shimano, my nephew just bought one but non project one for $750cdn, project one paint adds no value.

What I saw that looked like welds could be a shadow since the picture is not exactly in focus. Agree that the OCLV marking is there.

I asked Trek and here is their reply:

"We love a mystery bike. From the OCLV marking on the seat tube we can tell it's carbon, and from the wishbone shape of the chainstays (they come together before attaching at the seat tube), it's a 5200, 5500 or 5900. While the head tube badge is hard to see, we THINK it's from the 2003-2005 era(click here and scroll down: https://www.trekbikes.com/us/en/company/believe), and the bottom bracket design (outboard Shimano Hollowtech II) means it isn't a 2003 (if the bottom bracket is original). We stopped offering the 5900 in 2005. The paint scheme indicates it's Project One (you can also see the P1 signature on the top tube). Our guess is a 2004 5500 or 5900 Project One. Hope this helps."
