protecting shoes from (after) rain

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

protecting shoes from (after) rain

What if anything do you to if it rains in the late spring and summer? Do you wear shoe covers even if it's not that cold? And if you got caught in the rain and your nice expensive shoes got wet, what care do you take? Do you stuff them with newspaper once or twice? Or what?

Set in dryer on dryer rack. Just like I'd do if any other shoes of mine got wet. Just take the cleats off if possible

Instead of throwing them to rot in the back of the wardrobe immediately, I let them set out in the hallway to dry. That's about it. over 2 years later and they are still fine. YMMV.

I have only been drenched in my road shoes a couple times. I took out the insoles and leaned them upright against the wall. I leaned the shoes upright (toes up) against the wall after stuffing with newspaper. They seem to dry fine.

Thats what I was told to do by the LBS with wet shoes: Stuff with newspaper, keep in moving airpath. Moving air will dry the shoes. Mine have alot of netting on the tops and sides.

I just rode in a relentless NC storm yesterday for over 22 miles. I'm talking non-stop major downpour for the entire 22 miles. Shoes were S-works. I took the footbeds out and leaned everything against the wall in my hallway. Everything dried just fine. This has happened to me at least twice before and I did the same thing. No need to worry.

This is one of those things where we are divided by a common language. In Ireland it's called the Hot Press - in Australia the Airing Cupboard - in the UK the Boiler Cupboard - whatever, it's where the thing that makes hot water for your house is located. Leave your shoes on, or near it - the gentle warmth will dry them out before stinky bacteria get started, but not so quickly as to shrink them.

Pull removable insoles out. Put newspapaer in. Repeat newspaper if necessary.

Can't imagine that putting leather shoes in the dryer is going to be good for them.

Now, helmets in the diswasher is another story.

For those with central heating (forced air), the time-honored method of inverting them on an air vent works just fine. It doesn't matter if it's summer or winter, the air should be flowing all the time anyway, for heat, A/C or just circulation.

This is what I do as well, and it works well.
