Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Stan's Notubes ZTR Alpha 340

LBS are building some ZTR Alpha 340 rims with 24/28 Wheelsmith 2.0/ 1.7/ 2.0mm black spokes with the red Chris King R45 hubs and black brass nipples.
They said at 200 pounds I shouldn't have any porblems. This is true, right?

If the wheel builder is competent and you don't abuse them, it's probably true.

I'd put 32 in the rear. And if you are kinda hard on equipment, then these aren't the right rims.

Do they build a lot of wheels? It takes a little bit of talent to do it well, and not many bike shop employees know how anymore.

Are you planning on running them tubeless?

I was thinking of building a set with those rims. I'm 30lbs lighter but heard quite a few stories of the wheel coming out of true and not being as stiff. Its one of the lightest ally rims out there and it takes a great builder to make them durable. I was thinking of doing 28 spokes in the rear at my weight. With such light wheel 32 might be a better idea for you unless you're easy on the wheels.

+1. I weigh 155 pounds and went with 28/32, and if I were going to use these wheels as daily drivers, I'd keep a close eye on the brake tracks for wearout.

Regarding nipples, my first pick would be alloy DT ProLock. Why pick superlight rims and then add the weight back with brass nipples? It is not logical, Captain

Weight difference is miniscule vs not worring about the nipples. BTW, what's the price difference between the DT ProLock and brass? Just ask'n. Also if weight is that big of a concern then at 155 24/28 would have been just fine imo of course.

Yes, a friend just cracked a rear 340. She might weigh as much as 110, soaked.

I've had dozens of customers crack ~500-gram Bontrager rims, to the point where they have their own special "check for cracks" line on our check-in procedure. Seen a fair number of cracked Open Pros too. Wheels, they're out to get us

I've got that same setup (340s &R45s) but with Sapim spokes. I weigh 210 and have no problems.
