The trend towards wider wheels & tires at the Giro
"In the last year or so that thinking has begun to change. Here at the Giro, the 23c is in decline, replaced by its slightly fatter cousin, the 25c. Many of the teams already recognized for more progressive technological mindsets have begun using fatter 25c tires for regular road stages – no cobbles or gravel in sight, just smooth(ish) Italian tarmac".

I can tell you from extensive experience that 23c clinchers feel twice as stable in high speed racing situations as the 22mm tubulars I used to race on quite a bit. I'll have to give 25c tires a try.

So, explain to my why the 25s are all the rage?
I understand that wider rims need wider tires. Do people really want wider rims? So they ride wider tires. OR, o they want wider tires so OEMs made wider rims for them. I'm a little confused.

The 'aero' benefit of narrow tires was really overstated.
Wider tires are more comfortable, have less rolling results, and might actually be more aero (depending on how they fill the fork/frame junctures etc.
