Castelli Nero bibs weird sizing
Just got a pair of Castelli Nero bibs on sale from PB. $45 with shipping. I actually bought a pair from Realcyclist about 6 months ago, but the size large that showed up wouldn't fit my 10 year old daughter. They were seriously tiny. I sent them back. This time I ordered an XL and they fit (just barely), but the shoulder straps are a lot shorter than my Performance and Pearl Izumi bibs. I'm only 5'8" and these are XLs. They are almost too short but I'm going to give it a try. Anyone else notice that the Castelli bibs run very short in the shoulder straps? Leg length is fine.

I am 6', 175lb (no longer 180 -- woo!) and wear a M Castelli. Fits perfectly. The bibs stretch and I like the shorter straps - keeps the bib snug and prevents my junk from flapping around.

Hi, I am 5'9" and based on their sizing chart when ordering my neros (ordered online) I got the "small" and they are a perfect fit. So that sounds a bit odd to me too.

I just got a pair of Castelli Presto bibs in size M. My waist is about 33" and they barely fit. Does anyone think they might tear at the seams? They're getting stretched quite a bit more than my Nashbar special (actually are DNA Italico) bibs. I rode them today and the ride felt great, except that the shoulder straps irritated my skin (probably because I didn't wash them yet).

I have to admit that the shorter bib straps on these Castelli's creates a bit of a m00seknuckle situation. Maybe this is how bibs are supposed to fit and my other bibs are too big. I haven't ridden them yet...at at $45 I hate to send them back because they are pretty nice.

They really should fit that way. All of my Castelli bibs fit this way and you get used to it. I suspect you've probably been wearing a size larger than you can actually fit in and these are just a shock for you. For me, bibs should fit like a second skin.

These Castelli Nero shorts/bibshorts are totally worthless.... they are not well made, inconsistent in quality depending on where they were made, and have a flimsy piece of chamois good for very short ride. I bought them twice and returned them both times

I've noticed that I need to go up a size for anything euro.

I don't know. I got a pair of Castelli Podium collection bibs and the height is perfect (I'm 6'2-3). I think it was XXL. Whatever size it was, I looked at what I'd gotten because I really like them but didn't like the way it had logos everywhere and when Competitive Cyclist had their big sale I got a pair of the Neros in the same size. My Nero bibs are definitely a lot shorter. Either that or the shoulder straps have a lot less give. I don't notice it quite as much when I'm riding as when I'm walking around pre- and post-ride, but when standing up those straps really dig in (and can hurt after a bit) and aren't quite as comfy even when riding. So yeah, I'm with you on the Nero bib shorts being a bit short in the top/strap. I still like the rest of the fit and the pad, so I've kept them and will give them another try hoping they stretch out a bit.

***STATUS UPDATE***
Did a 23 mile interval ride today...let me say that I love these bibs! I now believe my other bibs are too big. They felt a little tight on the traps/shoulders at first, but once I got on the bike I didn't feel anything except comfort. The thigh length was perfect (I usually have to pull up the legs a bit on my other bibs) and the tighter fit in the rear and thighs gives it a really comfortable compression-shorts feel. The chamois was also very comfortable. I think I need to get another pair.

FYI - I'm 6'5" and 225 and the XL is perfect on me...
I'm a Large in everything else...I just expect Italian stuff to be 1 size smaller (think Pozzovivo)!

That's the way the straps are supposed to fit. They should be "too tight" standing up, but when you're on the bike they are the "right size".

Bibs should NOT be comfortable standing in an upright position. They should feel too tight when you're not on the bike.

The issue with those bibs is that are racer cut... thats why the fit is weird and you thought were too small and stuff, but once in the bike they rocked big time. To pay 45 for a castelli is an excellent deal.
If somebody wants to try the bibs the OP is talking about, and you are carrying a watermelon everywhere i would'nt advice you to get them. The reason is because you have to be really fit to use them, the front is really low cut so the belly will be literally off the bib w/o any support. Once in the bike kid'a be ok but either way... bad idea if your belly is kind'a big. I got a pair of this ones too and i had to return them because noticed right away they were racer cut and my racing body left me like 25 years ago so had to send them back.

If you think the Neros are good, don't try the higher end bibs unless you want to start spending a lot more money. They are much better.
As for the sizing, a lot of it depends upon your build. I'm 6' and 163 lbs and wear large bibs and medium jerseys. I have long legs and especially long femurs so if I get the medium bibs, the inseam is too short and the grippers end up too tight around the widest part of my quads. Since my torso is comparatively short, strap length has never been a problem.
