    Timex Cycle Trainer 2.0

Anyone using one of these computers? I searched the web for reviews or any information from users but could only find a small blurb. The unit itself seems to rival Garmin's 500 as it is almost identical when it comes to features. Instead of always going with the masses (Garmin) I thought I would see if there is any of you out there using this device and if so how do you like it? Pros? Cons? I did see on one other forum that when the cyclist stopped he had to re-pair his sensor when he started again (not sure if that is due to improper setup or a glitch but both the Timex and Garmin use ANT technology, and I know that is not an issue with the Garmins). Any insight would be great. Cheers

Garmin has proven itself. It's been around for a while and works. Why not consider it?

I've used a timex product for GPS while doing outdoor sports and find that it is a hit and miss technology. Things may have changed since then but compared to my garmin, it's not even on the same level.

The Timex unit looks very similar to the GlobalSat unit so I wouldn't be surprised if they are in fact the same thing. The reviews might help you out one way or the other.

    Hope this helps.

+1 This is why we "go with the masses". It's not a fashion show. Okay ... well maybe a little, but the Garmin works very well.

its not about going with the masses rather giving another product a shot if it is equal to (or close to) the product it is competing against. With that being said I like to consider myself an informed consumer and will give something a shot if there are favorable reviews and comments about it from other users. Thanks

    ftfy

There are a couple of recent threads on the GlobalSat and Timex units, and the bugs in the 500. I ride at lunch with a group featuring many 500s. All of them have a HRM issue with static electricity (very dry here) causing HR to spike. When I had a 500, the unit I bought would not acquire satellite. I had to send it back and have it replaced.

When you are a market maker like this, you cannot afford to lollygag on your bug fixes and QC. Garmin will be around for a long time, but I suspect prices will soon be coming down with a more competitive market and new players.
