Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I'm sure they are since they continue to use the same 1:1 cable pull used by earlier Red versions. Here's a link to a description that elaborates:

Caley Fretz of Velonews.com has a nice article about the compatibility of SRAM Red 2011 and 2012.

https://velonews.competitor.com/2012/...ibility_209270

To answer your question regarding compatbility, yes, the 2012 SRAM red aero glide RD is compatible with 2011 SRAM red shifters.

Paraphasing and extrapolating from his article, the cheapest set up might be to only use the 2012 SRAM Red Yaw FD and everything else 2011 SRAM.

I am using a 2012 SRAM Red groupset but with the Cannondale Hollowgram SISL 34/50 crankset and it is very sweet. I think the sleeper major improvement is the 2012 SRAM Red brakes.

I just purchased the FD and RD off eBay, total of $438.00 w/ free shipping, should be here Tuesday. Can't wait to slap them on. Will purchase the shifters and brakes soon.

That's a lot of $ for derailleurs. Used to be able to get a whole group for that kind of dough.
