Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

anyone used a forte saddle

I just bought a Forte™ Pro SLX Saddle. Wondering if anyone had experience with them and their thoughts. It was only $40 down from $80 so it was a pretty good deal.

Yes, I am the poster child for this saddle - I've got 4 of them. Great value and good fit for me. $40 is a good price - they will occasionally go as low as $30.

Sorry for bringing up a zombie thread but I'm curious if you had an update to using this. I'm due for a saddle change and I am wanting information of this saddle. Thanks!

wow thread from the dead!! well i'll bite. yes, it seems performance likes to habitually make a in house knock off of whatever is the cool seat of the moment. presently the two "pro" level road seats look strangely like the fizik antares/arione and a selle italia flite. that being said, ive got both of them!! and yeah, they are comfy and a good value. ti/alloy rails, reasonably light, slight padding and the finish is excellent. pretty sure they are made by velo which is basically the giant bikes of saddles. not lovingly stitched by weathered old italian craftsmen but very good none the less. the pro sl (selle italia knock off with cut out) is an awesome seat i will admit. the cover design is kind of dumb looking but it super comfy and reasonably light....

Thank you for not biting my head off. I always use the search function and whenever I try to ask for an update for reliability issues or whatever, someone razzes me, haha.

That said, thank you pdxtex for the response. I'm actually looking at the forte pro tt and the forte pro sl. Both are on sale for 39.99 and I'll find out on Friday which I'll come home with. I'll update for future questions of course. =)

I'm looking at purchasing a Forte Pro SL as well.

Can anyone compare it to a Specialized Romin?

I just picked one up from the LBS to try for a while, and though I like it (especially the large cutout), my thighs are rubbing on the wide nose, and I'm getting some sit bone pain that I haven't had on any other saddles. I figure this will subside in time, but if I can get a better saddle for a third of the price, that would be great.

forte is possibly thinner esp in front
[from internet pix]

the romin carries the cutout all the way to the back, forte doesn;t but unnecessary

forte - like it!
esp for $40
i think somehow i managed to get one for 10 or 20
which of course is 4x or 2x as good, respectively

if the romin is a gel seat, forget that!
seriously

forte is just plain 'slightly padded'
gel causes more problems that it solves

Thanks for the input, although I'll clarify that although the Romin says "Gel", it's totally minimal, as in you can't even feel it when pressing down with your fingers.

Why did you bump this thread??

I do believe the saddle in question, the forte pro SLX, was discontinued about 1 year ago. It's a reasonable saddle, but saddle preference is highly personal.
