Time for the Big Buy - Wilier Cento Uno - power meter yes/no?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Time for the Big Buy - Wilier Cento Uno - power meter yes/no?

About to make my big buy. *Wilier Cento Uno w/SRAM Red and Fulcrum R3 2-way fit wheel set. *$7k out the door. *Thinking about adding a power meter. *Worth it?

...I know, $7k won't make me faster...it's the engine not the machine...ride faster? Pedal harder...bla bla bla. All true. But money aside, one look at this rig and I bust out a kick stand.

A power meter is just posing if you are not using the data.

Go read the Allen and Coggan book. If you finish it excited about the possibilities for better training, then get the PM. If you get bored halfway through, skip the PM- you are not going to get your money's worth out of it (unless you pay a coach to interpret the data for you). Not every rider, even really good ones, are deep enough into data geeking to make the PM worthwhile.

That may be the most useful reply I've read on this board. Good stuff. I'm mostly interested in speed, cadence, ascent, calories, etc...my Garmn 800 gives me all that and more. Just saved me a cool $1,500.

Ride strong.

A powermeter is just a tool. If you use it correctly, it's a very useful one. Used incorrectly it's just expensive ballast.

I'd say get a HRM and use that for a year. If at the end of the year you feel like you have used that data well and would use the power data then buy the Garmin pedals when they come out.
