Rocket 7 back in business
Rocket 7 is back in business.

Extremely comfortable shoes; extremely light.
Unfourtunately, they're also not terribly durable, and rather pricey.
But having no foot discomfort is worth a lot.

my point exactly! Why spend that much money for non durable shoes.. I'm sorry but i am not that big of a p**** with my feet. I am also the guy that spends $250 on his soccer cleats so it's not like I am a cheap ass either. There is a lot more impact going on in my cleats than cycling shoes and my cleats last 2 years at least!

No doubt it's significant money, but you cna spend that on a pair of generic sidi's, lakes, etc.
For $489 you're not getting a truly custom shoe, but you are getting a shoe that's selected from one of a couple hundred different lasts to precisely fit your foot. Add a custom molded footbed, and you have an extremely comfortable shoe that is custom fit to you.
IMHO, the best places you can spend your money in cycling are the points where your body interfaces with the bike, i.e. seat, shoes, and to a lesser degree, hands (tape, gloves, and bars)
So $489 for a great fitting, superbly comfortable pair of shoes makes than say $300 to save 25 grams on a seatpost and stem.

Given that you can pick from unique lasts in half sizes from 30-53, and widths from AA to EEE, and the standard version is further customizeable with a custom molded footbed, you've got to have a truly unique foot to need the full RX version.

I agree there is some money that will better spent on something like this than upgrading your 2K wheelset for the latest 3K wheelset. I always had custom orthotics and molded shell ski racing boots growing up. Money well spent depending on how serious you are or even how much time spent in the equipment.

I can't speak to custom bike shoes, but spending the money on custom speed skates was night and day. That is the interface between your foot and planting the power down, and it makes a measurable difference

I have a birth defect and believe me when I say custom shoes are where they are at. I wear a size 39 and 46. I used to buy 2 pair of shoes so for almost same money I can get true custom. The problem I had was my gimp foot was too wide for the approiate size shoe. I looked at Rocket 7 but they werent in bussinusse at the time. So i went with Bont best money I have ever spent.

Here you go, The left foot is as wide as the righ one. The other problem I ran into was the volume which is shown in this picture.

Shot of the shoes. You really get idea of width and legnth of the foot. Didn't mean to jack thread. I'm sure Rocket 7 can do this as well.

LOL. It wasn't the speedskates that was tough, it was the skinsuit - at 6' 2 and 245 the world was not ready for me in that outfit.
Seriously, I used to laugh at the skates until I tried a pair. I've played hockey for most of my life, and am reasonably fast: Can do a 14.5 second lap with my current Graf skates and full equipment. Once I got used to the different stride and cross-overs with the Bonts, I went to a 12 sec flat lap, and am now in the 11s. To say that is fun is an understatement.
The best analogy is when I borrowed a friend's Giant carbon-fuber road bike. Yes you arent going to go flying over a speed bump or go over gravel, but boy oh boy can you fly!
(and sorry for jacking the thread - it's great to know that Bont makes cycling shoes)

Nice. I've always heard good things. I recall seeing somewhere LA wore these for some of his races?!?!

Um, why? American pro cycling was born out of a midwestern culture of speedskating in the winter and cycling in the summer. Are you too young to know who Eric Heiden, Jim Ochowicz and Team 7-eleven were?
