I'm mentally signed up (even though I haven't actually put the entry in yet).

I've done it twice (once on a tandem). It's a great race. It's also friggin hard.

You should put in your entry and show up.
It's loads of fun and the people it attracts are a blast. As a matter of fact, I'd go so far as to say that I've never had so much fun on a ride before [ride report]. As the name implies, it is challenging and you'll probably suffer. If you just want to finish, the first day isn't bad. If you don't manage your stuff, day 2 can be painful, but it's thankfully shorter.
The first and third climbs on both days are great. The last climb and particularly the last few miles are simply awesome. The only bad news is that the second climb on both days are kind of junk and seem to be there mostly to get the elevation gain where it needs to be. Bring your weenie gearing -- you'll be glad you did.
I have become biased in favor of one day rides and junk miles (i.e. I'm lazy and out of shape, but I don't care) so I don't know when/if I'll return. But if you're even thinking about it, you should go.

I like the second climb on day 1. I think it's my favorite of all of them. The climb up Death Valley rd (2nd climb day 2) is very different scenery than the others- more desert, and not as steep. But I don't mind that either. In fact I am looking forward to racing it next weekend in the Death Valley Road stage race.
I've ridden EC five times and finished three. There's race reports on my blog (link below), and I used to collect links to other people's race reports on my blog as well. They should all be linked to the Everest Challenge category.
Eating and drinking has been my biggest problem, along with saddle sores.

I'm moving to California in August. I'm glad this got posted because I'm seriously considering it. Unfortunately I wont have a lot of time to ride during July/August due to moving and starting a new job.

Not very technical for the most part, compared to what I am used to here in northern California. Lots of high speed sections though. Turns are not marked.

Some of the descents have expansion cracks, they suck.
Also, it's been suggested you should be climbing 20K feet per week, if you want to do well.

Not really. Lots of long straight sections, without a lot of turns. We were in the 60's on the descents on the tandem without much effort.

If anyone is considering doing it we're offering a nice discount on a training camp at the end of July. You get to ride all the EC passes + more, but over 4 days not too. Based up at Mammoth Lakes. Shout if anyone wants details or check the ccsd.com website. This is one camp I'll definitely be riding every mile I can instead of doing car support!

This not spam. I am racing it and sharing a blog about the training for it which may be of interest to others. Offering people a discount for being crazy enough to do Everest Challenge isn't spam.. and some people may genuinely get some benefit from the training opportunity.

Not a good use of money. Anyone who wants to race this 2 day event already knows what they are in for. Spending all that money some months before the race isn't going to do you any good. That's a lot of money to figure out how your body works less efficiently at altitude.
If day one is reversed like last year with climbs three and one swapped you will want a vehicle to drive you back to the start. It's a very long and boring descent plus a few miles of flat on HW 395 back to Mill Pond Park.

I'm still on the fence about doing it. I have wanted to ever since I heard about it two years ago. I may wait one more year though, I already trained super hard for a hilly century and didn't get quite the result I wanted from it. Need some time away from the 5hr+ climbing rides, haha.
