Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I bought the $10.00 Bell saddle bag at Walmart. Holds a tube, a CO2 w/nozzle, a few tire levers and a multi tool. Looks well made with decent straps.

The Mini-Wedgie from Specialized works for me. Water resistant and low profile.

I carry 2 CO2's plus inflator head, 1 spare tube, 3 tire levers, and a patch kit in mine. Could maybe jam something else in there but that's about it.

You can snug it up a little higher then what you see in the photo as well. It's far from being as clean looking as no seat bag, but I've never been riding along and spotted a bag on another bike that I thought looked better.

Pete,
The Spesh Mini Wedgie was on my short list. A smartly designed little bag to be sure. I am a huge fan of Specialized products. Based upon this thread and other reading I have done, I have decided that bags with a velcro strap around the seatpost 'may' be a problem as other guys reported by rubbing on their bibs.

There are two notable small bags that purely attach without a strap around the seatpost:
1. Lezyne Micro caddy...the one I will likely go with because it draws right up under the seat and is so low profile
2. Topeak Wedge Pack II Micro. Please see below pic. Clever attachment scheme to the back of rails and no doubt quite secure however doesn't draw up quite as tight as the Lezyne Micro caddy.

Guys...thanks a lot for sharing your experience...really appreciate it.

+1 on this. I have the same stuff in mine plus a topeak mini-6. It snugs up a lot, I have to take it off to get the zipper open. No rattles at all.

I like the Vaude bags I have on a couple of my bikes. They have two zippered compartments, so I can leave the stuff that stays on my bike in one compartment and use the other for cellphone, keys, and ID.

Edit: It doesn't look like Vaude makes the dual compartment bags anymore, so nevermind, I guess.

I have the Bontrager DraftPack and really like it. Slim and smooth so it doesn't mess up my shorts.

IF you are going to violate the "no-saddle bag" rule, then I suggest you look at these.

One advantage is that you can easily move the bag from one bike to the other.

You could probably just cut the seatpost strap if it did rub.

Just checked mine out and it sits on there tightly even without the seatpost strap being in place.

The dim evening light and my haggard Android resulted in REALLY poor images but you'll get the idea of just how well it tucks up under the saddle.

I also use the specialized mini wedge on mine and my wife's bike and in 800 miles not a snag to be seen. The velcro around the post works really well and never peels up. We both use specialized seats too and the way they have the 'V' in the back allows the wedge to snug up even tighter under the seat. I use the black and white ones and the white make it look smaller than it is too.

I have an Ortlieb micro on my bike and it's fantastic. Waterproof, very secure attachment. I've only opened it twice this year (1,200 miles on that bike) because I ride with tuffys.

My wife's bike is getting a Topeak Aero Wedge Pack Micro with the fixer quick-release. Similar to Ortlieb but reviews say not as good or reliable. But it's smaller and less ugly, and as noted above I rarely need to get into my bag let alone detach it.. so I think this one will get used even less frequently.

But when we do a long ride, I don't want a second tube or extra co2 in my jersey. Thus, wifey's bike gets some spares. She never rides without me but in theory she might. Then she'd need to know how to change a flat, I guess.

Another vote for the Lezyne Micro Caddy.

After nearly wearing through a pair of $100 shorts due to the stupid seatpost strap on another bag, I made the swap. Love it!

Thanks a lot guys. As mentioned, a lot of different small bags that work nicely. Sounds as though velcro around the post is a problem for some and not for others and it can be cut off a lot of the time if an issue.
Pretty unanamous praise for the Lezyne Micro Caddy...so believe will get that one.
Thanks again.

OP is from '12, but the question remains the same... what's some of the better micro / small saddle bags or wedges out there right now? So far, the Topeak Micro Wedge heads my list.

And I want one that is narrower at the seat post the bag doesn't eat into my shorts.

I'm switching out my comparatively huge Genuine Innovations C02 pump for an itsy bitsy air chuck.

My Pearl Izumi Tailgate (30ci?) has more than enough room with two tubes, two CO2 cartridges and the GI pump system.

I have both Micro Wedge and Micro caddy. I'd pick the caddy if you want a narrower profile seatbag.

Why would your shorts be rubbing under the seat on the post **********?

Tucks under the seat fairly unobtrusively, and will hold spare tube, C02, mini pump, tire irons, tire boot, mini tool, with no problem.

I have this one and it works great. I did trim the velcro strap down a bit to keep it from eating my shorts.

The white reflective band on the end of the bag is perfect for clipping on my Planet Bike or Bontrager blinkie lights.

Lenzyne's Micro Caddy (40ci) is bigger than my Pearl Izumi Tailgate (~30ci), so that's out. I'm looking for smaller.

Like bbattle wrote, the PI Tailgate is indeed a good bag ... space for a blinky off the bag and it holds a bunch of stuff.

Here's hoping there's something smaller and better!

I replaced a Lezyne Micro Caddy with an Arundel Dual. Very pleased with it.
