weirdest thing thats happened to you while cycling?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I once had a bee fly into my front wheel, shoot out its stinger aimlessly into the spinning mass, and the stinger exited the wheel on one side, while the bee exited on the other. Sad day for that bee.

Today, I stopped and took a picture of this on the MUP. It's one dead raccoon stacked on top of another.

Well this is the BS I am going through now!!!

Was out on a normal nice early evening ride on my commuter bike. Trek 3series 3500 MTB. I am heading back home as I know my wife is on her way back from Omaha. I then get pulled over by an officer, he flashes his lights and pulls me over on my MTB. (that was a first) anyways, I get pulled over and I am wondering what I had done wrong, I know I wasnt speeding, (haha) he tells me that a girl is accusing me of sexualing assaulting her! Described my description basically dead on! Worst yet is this girl is supposedly 11 years old!! So to make a long story short, i get arrested and booked into jail for sexual assault on a child. Now I have my lawyer and I have to fight this for something I didnt do! Which is going to get really interesting real fast! This is by far the weirdest and the most BS thing I have ever had happened to me yet anyway!

I got chased by a bear after accidentally sneaking up on a mother and cub mountain biking in Aspen back in 1997. I had just finished climbing up Red Mountain to do the Sunnyside trail and I made some noise splashing through a puddle which apparently startled the bears. I heard snapping branches and stopped riding to look around because I thought it was some other mountain bikers. What I saw was a bear coming towards me in a full gallop with a bear cub scrambling up a pine tree behind it. Fortunately it was about 50 yards away so I turned around and flew down much of the hill I'd just finished climbing. I ended up riding to Laredo instead and didn't see another person for about two hours, but I was freaked out for the rest of the ride.

Yeah I am working on getting this all resolved right now! Its just so frustrating, and this incident that I am being accused for is ruining my life! So I have to fight this to the very end, and see how it holds up in court! Please keep me in everyones prayers.

During my first ever road bike experience, I had to go off road 3 times. first time because a semi flew past me and it blew me off the road, he was probably about an inch from me, he didn't get over at all, truckers own the road I guess... second an old couple almost hit me, i went off road to avoid being hit then they had the nerve to stop and chew me out for being on the road though I was doing everything legal, I addressed them with a middle finger and they drove off and left me alone, it was childish of me to flip them off I suppose but I was extremely hot, worn out and a bit annoyed by their lack of following road laws. Third was the strangest, almost hit a deer LOL, had to go off road for that one to

Weather report said 30% chance of precipitation so I decided to take my chances as we all do at times with the weather. Three hours later, I'm desperately seeking shelter from a flash flood, 60mph winds and hail the size of marbles. When it finally subsided a little over an hour later, I ended riding through flooded roads up to my hub and past an electrical pole up in some serious flames.

where the eff do you all live? i wish i saw stuff like that.

i saw a rabbit once.

not saying i want to be chased by a bear, but seeing one would be damn cool!

weirdest thing that happened to me was a seagull or a pigeon flew into my front wheel....pretty sure I killed it, i almost wiped hard but recovered. I didn't even stop to check it out, i just kept going.

I guess Canada is pretty lame with natural occurrences..

i was attacked by a goose once...on hines drive in michigan...as i approached, i watched it take off 50 yrds ahead of me and maybe 30 yrds to my right, on a path that looked like it would intersect my trajectory...i started thinking, cool, it wants to pace with me, kind of like those nature videos of birds flying next to your passenger wi...at that instant, now about 3ft from each other, it flares its wings back and starts to lunge forward towards with its beak - i tuck down and i feel it land on my back and start hitting my helmet, i start swinging back with my right arm while pedalling and trying not to fall...probably lated 10 secs or so...anyone that knows hines drive, knows it's pretty popular - i stopped a few yards later to share a laugh w/ anyone around, and not a single soul (car, cyclist or joggers) witnessed the event...hines drive is also a road that you loop back, so i got to see the culprit later and we both shared a stare-down from across the street...geese...

All I can say, is that if a goose, duck, turkey, rabbit, raccoon, pigs, possum, or practically any wild critter decides to attack a human, we always would fare better with something other than just our bare hands.

A few years back I stopped on the MUP to help a lady fix a flat. A guy pulled up alongside us and asked if I needed any tools. I said that I was good. Then he asked if I needed a beer. Of course I said yes. So he reached into one of his panniers, which were both chock-full of bottles, and handed me a New Belgium beer. Then this unknown beer ranger rode off without a word. A true example of instant-karma, if there ever was one.

Have had deer run in the field along side me then cut across the road in front of me. Well in front so no concern of being run over.

One of my other animal encounters was with a groundhog that I thought was dead. As I came up on it I was going to go between it and the edge of the road. I was quite surprised when it darted for the ditch and both wheels of my bike wheels went directly over him. No harm to either of us that I know of.

One other time I came up behind a couple of younger Amish boys with horse and buggy. As I neared they kept looking back and I could hear the horses gallop getting faster and faster. As my pace increased to catch them they kept looking, laughing and the sound of the horse shoes hitting the pavement continued to increase. I think by the time they turned into a drive, we were around the 18 - 19 mph range. Quite fun for both I think. Most older Amish just watch as you go around.

I was in a FAST double pace line of perhaps 50 riders on an organized ride in Illinois a few years back when a horse started pacing us in a field to our left. Unfortunately, the field was not fenced, the horse stumbled, veered left, and ran right through the pack. Talk about "shattering" a peloton. Fortunately, no one went down, but for the rest of the ride, we never saw the 20 that got cut off.

This one time on a ride I managed to keep up with the 3s. I wasn't even shelled afterward.

That was weird.

Besides attending Burning Man 4 times, where bike is the preferred mode of transportation, and nothing NORMAL happens to you:

T-boned an English bulldog.
Nearly broadsided by a black bear.
Nearly broadsided a deer.
Nearly got my head knocked off by a crackhead with a big stick.

Nothing too crazy, really...

two stories:

1) one time in a stage race, i was tucked away in the peloton when we were hit with an apparently moderately sized dust devil. it was moving left to right across a field towards us, and we all braced for what was sure to be a catastrophic crash. the devil hit and... nothing. i didn't even notice having to adjust handlebar input. made for a cool story though.

2) just the other day, i was making my way back home on the mup, and i get to an intersection. just past the intersection in my lane of the mup is a family dismounted from their bikes and yelling. the presumptive family patriarch was at the head of the line, followed by 3 small children and the matriarch at the end. as i got closer, i realized that it was the woman yelling at the guy for not accelerating fast enough. apparently, she had run into the last kid and knocked the child and herself down because the man wasn't accelerating fast enough past the stop sign. (sounded more like she was angry because she fell down, and wanted to blame someone else for falling) in her anger, she was flailing all over the path. the man yelled something like "stop going crazy, and there is someone behind you trying to pass!" she moved, but the verbal assault resumed in full force. i gave an awkward smile wave and said thanks, but that really soured the ride.

I kind of felt the need to protect myself if they passed us again so I found a fairly heavy rock and we kept on riding toward home. We got about a mile from my house until they caught up to us again. The guy pulled up beside me while I was riding about 15mph. I started to yell at him and told him to "F*** off". The guy just kept pace with me and was looking forward like he didn't even notice I was there. He then started to slowly swerve toward me like he was trying to drive me off the road, so I took the rock I had and threw it as hard as I could against his passenger side door. He swerved harder after that but I managed to slow down, get around to the driver side of him and started yelling at him again. He then took off. Never once did he even turn his head my way, the whole time he just looked straight ahead like a crazy person. Never saw him again.

Very strange. Even stranger, every time they passed us up to mess with us I swear there was completely different people in his car. It was as if they were picking up different friends to enjoy the moment together. totally weird... and lame. Too bad he has a fat dent in his car now tho, I turned out just fine
WOW....where was this?? thats insanity at its finest. i wouldve gotten his license plate # and reported his ass.
