Anyone looking for a deal? GT GTR full carbon and 105 for 1300 shipped

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Anyone looking for a deal? GT GTR full carbon and 105 for 1300 shipped

Hey all, just thought I'd pass this along. I just ordered an xl for this. GIANTNERD has an additional 20 percent off this weekend bringing the price with genius build to 1300 shipped. That's full 105, no fsa crank or tektros like caad10 5 or madone 3.1, and a full carbon fork and frame.

So was this not a good deal? Should I return it when it comes in this week?

I don't know that much about GT road bikes, but for a full carbon 105 bike new that's a good deal. Fuji bike are about that price or a little more similarly equipped and on sale.

No, it's a good deal, considering the quality of GT frames (they're very good and very underrated) and the level of components--Mavic wheels, Fitzik saddle, full 105, etc. Just be aware that MSRP on a 2012 model year of that bike is a hair over $2000, and with 2013s coming out soon, and the usual dealer discount off MSRP, you wouldn't pay a lot more for a 2012. If that matters. Personally, if I got equal value, component wise, between a 2011 and 2012, and saved another 2-3 hundred, I'd go with the 2011.

GT's carbon frame bikes are an aggressive geometry build. Compare an entry level Tarmac or Madone, component wise, and you'll see a huge difference. You'll have a Tiagra group, and house brand wheels, tires, seats, etc. And the lowest level rims and tires that they offer. And you're still very unlikely to get one for anything close to $1300.

I ride a GT aluminum frame model. I think they're great bikes, and I'm happy that a lot of people have never heard of them. Keeps them hundreds cheaper than big name brands similarly-equipped.

Weird geometry. XS is 53 cm TT, 50 cm ST, and recommended for people that are 5'0"!?!

edit: Also Shimano 105 5600.

I'd rather get the $1300 shipped Kestrel Talon with 5700 from BD:

Not a bad deal, not exceptional. Thing is, once you get it, to see how comfortable it is, how it fits, and how you like it. If all that is good, I wouldn't sweat the details. I owned a GT MTB back in the early 90's days of the Triple Triangle geometry. I still think selling it was the worst mistake I ever made. Performed really well for me, rode nicely, and with no shocks and steel frame, likely would have lasted me forever. Comparing plums to banana though...

I have the same bike spec'd out in SRAM though. The ride is great and pretty good at soaking up road vibration. Compared to my Aluminum Terk it's like riding on pillows of fluffy marshmallows. Really a nice bike, other than the proprietary seatpost.

I was looking at that one (the talon in bikes direct), but it looks funny to me and not the biggest fan of bikes direct. I believe that bike comes in at around 19.5 pounds built up too, probably from the wheels. 5700 195 wouldve been nice but the looks and component package of the gt won me over.

Ill have pics up as soon as it comes in!

Any idea how much the frame weighs?

With all my distrust of CF frames, at that price I'm considering buying the bike, stripping the frame and ebaying the components.

Hmm I tried searching but couldn't find anything on frame set weight. I'm assuming it's pretty light weight because people have gotten this under 16lbs with rival and a light wheel set. If you're just gonna strip it you can save the build option and get if for 1200.

Alright got the bike in this morning! I was really impressed with the packaging included with the genius build, but a little disappointed that I had to adjust the rear derailleur a bit. I was really surprised to see the New Shimano 105 5700 on the bike, was expecting the 5600 after talking to them on the phone! I was also surprised to see that GT used Jag Wire on the bike, a nice touch. The cable routing through the headtube and top tube is really neat. Took the bike out for a spin and it rides great, much better handling than my Trek XO1 and the brakes are awesome compared to Canti's Overall I am very happy with the bike, especially with the 5700 105. If they still have it in your size, I would strongly recommend the bike. I'll be posting up an unboxing video if anyone wants to see how it is packaged and all.

Nice bike. Digging the color schene. Not too many b ikes out there w/green. I'd say the 5700 was the icing on the cake for you! Now ride the heck out of it.

Looks pretty sweet! Is the accent color really a mint green or is that just your photos?

I have an AL GT series 2, it is a fantastic bike, sharp handling, high quality finish, comfortable, and stiff in all the right places. I had test ridden the carbon version and liked it but was out of my price range at the time, nice deal!!

Yeah I was considering that, but couldn't stomach paying double for a bike that would perform almost exactly the same.

SRAM Red is incomparably better than Shimano 105. That said, no, most people cannot double their budget. You bought the right bike.
