Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

New to road biking, need advice

I am doing a tri 3 weekend in august and need a bike. I have been wanting to get into riding all summer, and have procrastinated to this point. Now I am at the final hour to get a bike, train on it some, and be comfortable at speed on it.

I have gone to a few LBS, test drove Trek Madone, Specialized Tarmac, and Allez, and Cannondale CAAD10 and SuperSix. I definitely like the carbon frames as they ar more comfortable to ride and soak up the road better. I also fell in love with the Sram shifters! Brilliant design in my very un-experienced opinion!

I would like something that I wont want to upgrade in a year, so I am looking at Trek 5.1, Tarmac Expert, SuperSix 4, etc. There isn't much out there so I started looking at other brands as well.

This is where I need the advice, I have $2,000 to spend total. Obviusly the 3 brands above are my budget plus some $. I have looked at CIOCC Extro (local importer right down the road), Wilier Isoard, Felt, Look 566, Cervelo, Scott etc. It is hard to find reviews, but a lot of the reviews I find rave about these bikes.

I like to go fast and would like to be able to corner hard, which the above bikes lend themselves to. I am reading and being told that a Roubaix, or other comfort type bike may not please my needs. The Look and Wilier are more for soaking up the roads?

There is a CIOCC for sale with Sram Force locally within my budget, as well as some 4 series 2011 Madones, and Tarmac Apex/Rivals.

Sorry for the long newb post!!!!
