    Cyclecross vs road handlebars?

    Hello,

I was looking at the handlebars on my LeMond Poprad and they're labeled "Bontrager cyclocross" so I was wondering how cyclocross handlebars are different from road handlebars? Are road handlebars different from each other? What kind of handlebars should I look at for mostly recreational road riding?

    Thanks.

It is the opinion of some, including Keith Bontrager, that bars with drops that flare out slightly to the side are beneficial for cyclocross. Salsa has CX specific bars that do the same - the Bell Lap.

There are many types of drop bars with different bends and angles and whatnot and you can spend years figuring which type is best. For now, if you like the bars you have, then stick with them. They are quite fine for rec riding.

I really enjoy bars with flared drops. I find them very comfy for long rides.

Check out the range from 3TTT. They do a touring model, the Morphe which has a recurved top and a small diameter drop. I use this old touring style of drop bar and it works well for me.

Correct. This is the only real difference between cross and road bars.
