How accurate is the Garmin 500 Edge temp gauge?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Mine reads fairly high. But given that it's black/red I figured it was just soaking up the sun. Also, I've got it out on a barfly. My previous computer (Bontrager Node 2.1) is still on the stem and it reads much lower.

This is from my ride yesterday:

I don't think it really was 125 degrees yesterday.

Mine doesn't seem all that bad actually, read 104 a couple of times today, but it was HOT. Weather.com said 98ish, so being that I was in the sun on pavement, doesn't seem to far off of a reading.

It can only read the temp where it's at (sitting in the sun on your bike). Do you mount a weather sensor next to it to check the accuracy or just guess the real temp.

How do you meet this on your bike?

Air Temperature Measurement. Install the temperature instrument according to the following standards:
a. over level terrain (earth or sod) typical of the area around the station, and;
b. at least 100 feet from any extensive concrete or paved surface.
