2012 Colnago Master X Light Saronni PR82 build. Lovin' the steel ride!

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Great!
I prefer more silver to the carbon and black bits, but your choices there limit you (I went down that road) and to each his own. That is badass.

As others have said the bars to me are the biggest anomaly, moreso because of their wing shape that IMO belongs on a more aero/techy build.

Just a suggestion but Deda Zero 100 bars are never a bad idea for a Campy-fitted Italian frame.

Gorgeous!!!
I'm still on the hunt for a nice Steel bike too. I'm thinking it might come before the CF frame.

Nice bike! I have a Molteni version.

Note: Your headset appeared to be installed incorrectly. There shouldn't be a gap between the upper cup and the upper race.

That Molteni frame is fantastic...I've been on the lookout for one. Still kicking myself for not picking one up......

That is probably my favorite steel frame out there. Sweet bike. You made the right decision on the fork.

Your Molteni is absolutely beautiful. Pretty hard to find.

I bet the top and bottom bearings may have been installed wrong. The bigger bearing should be located at the bottom and the small one on top. I noticed a similar sized gap on the bottom cup, except pushed inwards. I'll get it sorted out. Thanks for pointing out about the headset.

Just as I figured ... the bearings were just swapped into the wrong headset cups. Now it is fixed!

Also the Zipp 101s are now tubeless:

Went on a brisk 20 miler today on the Master running tubeless. Super smooth running lower pressures (90 psi up front, 100 psi in the rear).

Verdict?

UPDATE: Made some more retro-style modifications

Okay, so I made some modifications to make the bike look more classic. I do agree that some of the carbon parts like the stem, bars, and seatpost were clashing with the motif of the steel Colnago.

Swapped out the old carbon cages for some King Cage Ti

Front

Rear

Replaced the carbon stem and bar for some Ritchey Classic counterparts

Took out the stock Colnago all-carbon post for the Thomson Masterpiece in Silver. I even swapped out my Aliante saddle for the Kurve Bull.

Only a half-pound gain over the old configuration. Not too shabby IMO!

After over a year of riding the Master, I can safely say this one is a keeper. Nothing rides quite like it and I can see it becoming a family heirloom. I love it!

What did you do with the Motobecane frame?

I love the bike. It's beautiful.

I wish I can afford that saddle. I wondered what BULL, CHAMELEON and SNAKE meant on the Cannondale Pro team bums during TdF. I just read about it 2 days ago.

If you like, you can remove the Ritchey logos with some #0000 steel wool and oil. Just go easy and the logos will magically vanish without marks. On my friend's Della Santa with the exact Ritchey cockpit like yours, we removed the "RITCHEY" wording and left the lines and insignias.

Gorgeous Colnago steel bike! My 95 Cinelli SC with SLX & Campy Carbon Record weighs out at 18.5lbs! My recent purchase of a Colnago C-50 CF is 2lbs lighter, but the ride is nowhere near the Cinelli.

100% Italian Steel

The chrome lugs are just a sight to behold!

Carbon fork? Not for this Italian steed ...

The extremely smooth and compliant ride of the Master easily made up for the 1.5 pounds of added heft over the Moto LeChamp Team Ti.

I am waiting for my Fusion 3's to arrive so I can convert my 101's to tubeless (like I did with the 404 Firecrests on my Orca). Overall, I LOVE the ride and very happy with the purchase! Highly recommended!
