Shorter seat tube?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Shorter seat tube?

I ride a steel frame with 57x57 top and seat tubes (both center to center). The top tube is a bit too long for me (even with a 90 mm stem, I think I might have relatively short hands and torso) and there is just a handful of seat post showing. I am 5'11 and enjoy riding sportives and other long distance rides. The competitive cyclist calculator suggests me 54.5-55.5 top tube and 57-58 seat tube. I was offered a good deal on a nice steel frame (yes, I like steel) with 55.5 top tube and 54 seat tube? Would it fit me? Should I be bothered with slightly too short seat tube or would this be a no issue. Can't really test it as it is just a frameset. Thanks!

I... think it sounds like it would work. You may need a few extra spacers or a flipped up stem though. Plenty of seatpost always looks good!

Does it have a horizontal top tube? What's the head tube length? Your question cannot be answered without those dimensions. Oh, and take the CC fit calculator's recommendations with a very large grain of salt.

Seat tube length is a pretty much irrelevant measurement. As others said, getting the top tube and head tube lengths in combination with the proper stem is what matters for a good fit. After that, look at frame angles and trail to get the ride and handling where you want it.
