Competitive Cyclist Lifetime Returns
Did anyone else see that they changed their return policy to Lifetime NQA Returns? I've often used their 60 return policy to try out high components that I wasn't sure about. I end up keeping half of what I try, so I guess it works out for them. Ribble usually has the best prices, but lifetime returns? I think I might start paying a little more.

So you could buy a Pinarello, ride the crap out of it, and return it.
"We call it our Unconditional Lifetime Returns policy, as in no questions asked, in perpetuity. Buy something and if it falls short of your expectations in any way, for any reason, just send it back, for as long as you own it. Bikes, clothes, components, and stuff on sale. We won't ask any questions, and there's no fine print. We want you to be eternally happy, simple as that. Just send your item(s) back and include the information below. As soon as we receive the item(s) we will post a credit to your original form of payment. Be aware that it typically takes your credit card company 5-7 to refund the amount to your card."

REI has done something similar for a long time and they're still thriving. I don't see Competitive Cyclist going away any time soon, especially since they now have a huge company behind them.

The thing I miss about CC was when they would let you borrow a bike for 7 days for a 200 bucks, and if you bought one in 30 days they would knock it down to 100. Covering there shipping. Its how I bought my first Cervelo.

You are getting pissed off at a story that may or may not be true?
It is uncool...if it is true. But unless verified, the ruined experience is hypothetical.

I received an email from them today stating they had free ground delivery for anything over $50. That's hard to beat except for something you need immediately.

That's what they told me last year, but it was under the old policy.

These policies, I think, are great. But, to be able to maintain them, the retailers generally keep prices pretty high.
Competitive Cyclist and REI are not known for their great prices, but for their service. (Yes, they do have sales and deals can be had.)
I've been an REI member for close to 20 years and in that time, I have only returned one item beyond 30 days. Technically, I could have filed a warranty claim with the manufacturer, but going to REI was faster and easier.
Finally, I have to think that if one person were to continually abuse the policy, the retailer would simply stop selling to him or her.

Many retailers track returns and people who abuse the policy can be blacklisted. I've seen people told by the cashier that the items are not returnable due to over use of the return policy. The person was not happy.

And if they continue the policy, the costs of false or unreasonable claims affects the pricing they can offer on their products. There's no free lunch; someone has to pay for everything, and in this case it's us.

That sounds a lot more like renting than borrowing.
