Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I've thought of this before.

Rolling starts at same speed at a coast, cross a start line and let the sprint go. Drafting may or may not be allowed depends on what you think. There can be different distances. I was also thinking you could do team and pair sprints at longer distances.
Whoever crosses the line first wins

Sounds like fun, i do this with a couple guys i ride with from time to time. We coast to an object that we both agree is the "start line" and go for it.

Well, sorry for your fail. It's a real thing, and it certainly looks fun. Just a variation of a standard track 1km tt.

They also are referred to as Street Sprints in a lot of places. I've done Omniums that had Sprints as a fourth event.

Ther is a velodrome in San Jose if you are really intersted in "drag" racing, other wise none as "sprinting" in bicycle racing. You can get your ass kicked by a 12 year old insted of inventing a pussified poseur street version of something that has been around for 100 years

Street sprints are an interesting form of racing. I would go from a standing start though. It would be hard to get a fair rolling start. We do these in Portland at times. Most of the time the match sprinters from the velodrome win...

Hasn't this kind of race existed since the invention of the second bicycle?

What a surprise, the only guy that looked like a track racer on a real track bike wins.

There were many track cyclists there, not just one. Several of them went to Track Nationals. The winners qualifying time was 0.03 sec faster than 2nd place, so to act like the outcome was some foregone conclusion is silly.

used to be called "the friday night lights" in atl, raced a few lights down a straight empty road with a slight incline, also tried to see how many lights you could beat as well as out running the outer person.
