Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

3 hole or 4 hole shoes for Speedplay

Switching to Speedplay and need new shoes. Get 4 hole speedplay specific or just get 3 hole and use shims? I assume most are one 3 hole shoes?

If you can find shoes with 4 holes and know you'll be staying with Speedplay, the four hole shoes are best for Speedplay. The adapter adds to the overall stack height of the shoe. You want to keep the stack height to a minimum to keep your foot as close as possible to the pedal.

either work. as bikepro said the cleates themselves have 4 holes but they come with an adapter that adds alittle height. Ive ridden both ways and after 10 minutes I couldnt tell a difference

4 hole is lighter, has lower stack height, and won't have curvature issues that some 3 bolt shoes do. If you can find a 4 bolt shoe that fits, it's better.
