Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

PSA: Google Street View Auto-drive

If you use Google Maps street view to preview your routes and get tired of clicking the forward arrow, this utility is for you. Copy and paste your route from Google Maps' directions, click "Drive" and sit back.

or you could use mapmyride.com and have just about all of the information you could possibly want about your route including utilizing google earth, a "3d flyover" integrated into google earth. It shows you elevation changes, and can do street view if you want... AND you can check out all the routes that other people have mapped in your area, sort by distance etc. Some people have been taking about a site called ride with gps or something to that effect, I have not checked it out yet but I don't have a gps.... I'll check it out tomorrow and get back to this thread.

That's good to know. Ridgewithgps.com is def better than mapmyride for mapping out routes.

I tried the 3-D fly-over, it's ok, but only shows the few looking down. I use street view w/ Auto Drive because it shows the street view, as I see it when riding (allows me to check out road surface as well).
