Beginner looking for a road bike in LA - advice needed!
I used to ride 10 speed road bikes long ago and now interested in getting back into it. I live in LA, in a flat part of town and want to go out for a morning ride for an hour or so. I have a max of $400 to spend. I completely realize you get what you pay for. But for now, I want to buy a bike that will get me going for a little while. I'm looking at these bikes (57-59cm) on Craigslist. Any particular one that screams "best deal"? Thanks so much for any input!

I'm thinking the Specialized Allez is the best of that bunch. Couple caveats:
My sons' Allez is all aluminum, no CF anywhere.
The bike looks to be in great shape. Beware buying stolen property via Craig's List.
No pedals. That'll be another expense.
Also add in other bare minimum expenses: helmet, pump, spare tube, tire irons, etc...

Have you seen what your local bike shop has? You may be surprised.
Performance Bike has some low-cost bikes that aren't bad; and you'll get the advantage of all-new equipment, a warranty, etc.
For 1 hr rides, you don't need a killer bike! And a flat-bar bike may be a better choice.
As others have mentioned, you'll need a helmet, patch kit, pump, etc and all of that will eat into your budget.
BUT -- this time of year you can find some killer sales, as dealers move out last year's inventory and prepare for the 2013 models.
So give your local shop, as well as Sport Chalet and REI a look. You may find something you like there....
