Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Weekend Cycling Ride Reports - October 27/28

How's the weather where you are? Are you still able to get outside and ride? Tell us aobut your rides on this rainy/snowy weekend ... or maybe it's hot and sunny where you are.

Friday - walking, a little bit, in the rain.

Saturday - if the rain stops we might get out for a ride.

33 miles in the after bits of the hurricane. 20 mph winds but no clouds. It was too nice of a day to not ride. 30 mph in tailwinds but 13mph in headwinds. Nice ride though.

11.03 km in lower mainland BC ... on a wet and chilly afternoon. It is +9C out there, and had been raining quite heavily in the morning. It stopped, so we dashed out for a ride. Some beautiful autumn colours, but I didn't have my camera with me.

So I rode 45 miles today in sorta cold conditions. I think it was around 35-40 with some overcast and some wind. Nice loop. We climbed through Red Rocks and then over to Golden and climbed Look out Mountain and came home via Dinosour Ridge/Bear Creek. Might try High Grade in Deer Creek tomorrow

23 miles today. Cloudy around 60.

Might get an early ride tomorrow. Then I think Hurricane Sandy will start to creep into our area, before the deluge on Monday.

Saturday - I rode my usual morning ride with my brother next to Souvarnabhumi airport in Bangkok. We rode nonstop for 85 km in 2 hr 50 min. It was quite windy since there seems to be another typhoon blowing in, but the sky was clear and sunny. It was 78 F when we started but climbed up to 95 F at 10 am. I went through 3.5 L of drink mix but did not bring any food at all. Either I was kind of hitting wall at the end of the ride or my head cold was developing.

Sunday - My head cold arrived fully saturday night so I did not ride at all on Sunday. Now it is vitamin C and lots of fruits and soup. Also, I took the whole family to get our seasonal flu vaccination shots. Have you gotten vaccinated yet?

Did the Great Pumpkin Ride in Warrenton. Beautiful weather in the 60-75 degree range, and nice flattish country roads. Best of all, the pumpkin breads and soup there were serving at the rest stops. 72 miles went by quickly. Rode mostly by myself and could not have been more relaxing after a hectic week of business travel in the Big Apple.

I rode a 400k Saturday. I and my tandem partner wore Waldo/Wenda outfits for the ride.

When I lived in the US, I got my flu shots at a different time of the year.

These flu shots were available just starting in October and were supposedly for the 2012-2013 flu season, according to our doctor here.

Last year, our whole family came down with the H1N1 flu in April on the way back from our trip to the US.

It is kind of confusing for our transcontinental trips and I was wondering what you did since you also travel transcontinentally.

Mark

I did 24 miles yesterday (Sunday) with temps around the mid 60s and light to moderate winds. Sun was out so it was standard shorts/short sleeve jersey. This ride was a little special because I not only reached my monthly mileage goal (200) but also broke through the annual goal I'd set at the beginning of the year (2,000). Yay for me!

30.6 miles for me yesterday, mostly on MUP's but also a short stint on surface streets to the LBS. My longest ride to date. That makes 120 miles since I bought the bike 4 weeks ago. I know that's not much to some but it's the best I can do right now with my current work and family schedule, and also beats all previous monthly mileage totals with the KHS bike.

Sunny, some wind, temps in the 50's. Wore cycling shorts but a long sleeve tech shirt with a short sleeve T-shirt over it. I had the heat on in the car driving back home.
