Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

What to do about rusty bolts?

Got an amazing deal on a used bike that has been neglected. The bolts on the brakes are rusty. Do they sell rebuild kits or are there any tricks to make them look new again.

The bike is a Specialized Allez w/ Shimano components.

Thanks!

works really good. With just a few bolts, you may try vinegar first before springing for a full gallon of that stuff.

I would use PB blaster on them if you are having trouble getting any out.

Here is a site i use for lightweight stuff that also has bolts

Dremel tool to remove the surface rust. Petroleum jelly, or a little grease to slow down its return.

Alternatively, take out the little steel bolts and replace with stainless steel or titanium.

Or don't worry about the rust, and just ride it.
