Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Innotech 105 Ketten-Fluid

Just came back from opening day of the Cycling Trade Show in Tokyo. Saw a display of Innotech 105 Ketten-Fluid chain lubricant that looked pretty amazing. Looks like it's from Germany. Anyone have any experience with it?

Cheers- rj

You went to a Cycling Trade Show and you're most excited about lube? Are these shows different in Japan than they are in Europe or America?

LOL. Actually, I was pretty stoked about a dozen or so bikes, especially the DeRosa Super King Campy Super Record setup; sweeeet!

...but I was expecting to be stoked about those. This Ketten-Fluid is super lubricating but you can't even tell there's lube on the chain. Just wondering if it is that good in real riding conditions as well. Reviews from a German bike site were all 5-star but there were only 4 of them. And yes, trade shows in Japan are like trade shows anywhere else.

How does does a chain lubricant look "pretty amazing" vs other brands? More watts on a power meter, 2mph faster, bike is 500 grams lighter, glowing green, tastes like chicken? Tell us more...

To me the ideal chain lube stays clean, keeps the drive train quiet, and lasts a reasonable time. For example, White Lighting is great because it doesn't turn to black gunk but you need to add it every 100 miles or so. Some of the thicker lubes go a good job of staying quiet and last a reasonable time, but touch the chain or get it against your leg and you have a black tattoo. I've pretty much tried them all and "Rock n Roll" works best for me and all I do is wipe the chain down once a week.

They had a display chain you could handle that was lubed with the Ketten and the links moved around like there was no friction in them at all. Then after handling the lubed chain, I didn't even have any grease or oily film on my hands. There are some YouTube videos out in German that show how the Ketten also cleans your chain, but they didn't have anything like that at the show. Would love to give it a try, but at about $25 for a 200ml bottle, it would be nice to hear about some personal experience first. Maybe I'll just have to be the Guinea pig .

Yeah, of all the lubes I've tried up till now, I like Chain-L the best because it keeps the drive train the quietest, but it sure gunks up the drive train as well.
