improperly installed chain
I had to replace my six-speed index chain in a hurry today... and instead of using the master link, I connected the chain by pushing out one of the normal pins and pushing it back in. I just realized my mistake, and I can't tell which of the pins it is that I used to connect the chain. Is this setup dangerous? Do I need to just scrap this new chain and put another on the bike? If it makes a difference, the instructions that came with the chain claim that it uses "specially riveted pins".
Thanks!
Thanks!

There was an indexed 6 speed system? Wow! Missed that.
As for danger - as a certified internet advice guru I would suggest just ride the damn thing and learn to read installation instructions.

SIS was around for years before HG and 7-speed came along.
If this is the type of chain where the pins stick out a little from the plates (like the KMC Z33), then you're probably fine.

If the chain is a protruding pin design, it's fine. If it's a flush-pin chain, then it's not good.
