Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I'm an accredited cycling coach with 20+ years of experience.

The links I provided were VERY specifically chosen and are specific to BCAA consumption during excersice and were related to the claim that on-bike nutririon during shorter efforts can improve performance. They were given to my by the biochemist/nutritionist at the company I work with that manufactures and distributes the brand "BCAA 8000" and are germane to my point.

Weighting of the jounals?

1. American College of Sports Medicine
2. International Society of Sports Nutrition
3. Department of Sport and Health Sciences, University College of Physical Education and Sports,Karolinska Institute, Stockholm, Sweden.
4. Ajinomoto Europe SAS, 75017 Paris, France.

Someone with a lot more science training than a cycling coach.

Since this a cycle forum, you have good credentials that are appropriate for this discussion.

If I listed my actual credentials, you'd all either
1) Not believe me
2) Start bashing on me for no reason because it sounds like I'd just be saying how great I am
3) Start trying to get into my personal affairs by googling me and posting my stuff all over the web.

No thanks.

Suffice to say, it's one of my oldest and now, probably least impactful measures I've done, but I scored a 1540 on the SAT prior to the 100-point score increase. In the ensuing 15 years after that, pretty much all my objective testing measures (and nonobjective ones) have been in line with that level of performance, and many of them have been in science.

Actually, what I find unbelievable is that you are over 30. I would have guessed 17.

That's a bummer, isn't it? I remember so clearly getting to college and discovering that half the kids on my hall had two 800s. I'd been a big frog in a small pond, but no more. That was in 1962.

Never stop studying. Learning is (almost) the only thing that always makes you feel good. My bicycle is definitely in that category, also. (:-)>

It's not one or the other or even both. It is all the above plus many, many other factors. When I am tired, unrested, out of shape, hungry, stressed, any of these and many other factors, then i may find myself performing at a sub par level. Many factors go into determining the strength of a ride. To attempt to reduce it to simply two factors is simpleminded.

As it stands, you've gotta be an idiot to think that training doesn't improve your riding, and nearly everyone knows that if you're coming from out of shape, you'll have noticeable gains, even in ONE ride if you have a hard prior ride and good recovery in between.

My post did the job though - bring out all the people ready to bark up the wrong nutrition tree
You see that is the somewhat pathetic common denominator to all your threads. You seem to like starting threads to 1) try and show how smart you are and 2) how dumb everyone else is.
It seems that indeed you are a very intelligent guy. Perhaps if you were a bit brighter and able to find reasons for doing what you do, you would be able to rest easy in this knowledge without the braggadocio and insecurity.

I went to MIT as an undergrad, where I was privileged to work, study, and interact with people that were TRULY intelligent, and understand the difference between "smart" and "smarta**"

I have accreditation as a coach and have applied it successfully in one of the most competitive hockey programs in the nation. Training that requires ALL facets of athletics, not just reading a book about VO2 and picking out some of high points.

A number of posters here have much better experience than I do, and are perfectly happy to display them. This is a fundamental of anonymous discussion. A person am a lot more inclined to believe someone explaining the role drafting plays if the are a Cat 1 or 2 road racer.

I've competed in Division 1 crew, ice hockey, speedskating, and cross country, all of which require fundamental knowledge of tactics, conditioning, organization, and nutrition.

You have shown none of this, continue to confuse discussion with argument, and reasonable question with responding "I'm smarter than you are, kiss my a**. Well sorry to tell you bub, you aren't. Not by a long shot.

And that is unfortunate, because buried in there are some interesting ideas and though-provoking lines of research. Your recommendations on a few books were outstanding, and I am grateful for them. They confirmed a lot of what I knew from running camps and some outstanding coaches, and gave me some help building a good tri training plan.

But until you can understand, absorb, and apply basic rules of civil discourse and discussion...AND show creds...

You've just proven my point. I specifically did NOT bring up my credentials because of guys like you who immediately jump all over any little thing I drop calling it 'braggodocio.' I don't even make any comments about income because I made like 2 replies to 2 threads about childcare, and a bunch of folks immediately accused me of saying how rich and loaded I was and how I can't stop talking about money despite a measly 2 posts about how much I spend on childcare per month.

I'm glad I just revealed one little tidbit. That's def enough for the 41.

I actually enjoy your posts.

Hopefully you (and the rest of this forum) realize that the '41' is a place for ENTERTAINMENT and not information or civil discourse. THere are boundaries yes, but in general, it's a place to get your rants out and talk a little bit of trash on the side.

If you met me in person you'd have no idea that it was me behind these posts - I really enjoy the chaos that ensues when someone makes a strong statement, and I've had a bit more time than expected at work to have some fun. You probably noticed this as well in my other posts, which are likely more information-oriented and 'civil' in the case that it seems the thread is being started or read by folks not interesting in causing a stir. For this thread though, the fact that BDop jumps in immediately (we've had some fun on other threads) = instant degeneration, and I'm fully aware that he enjoys it as much as I do, which is why (and me) keep coming back for more on this thread despite the fact it should have ended on page 1.

My job already doesn't allow me to be even remotely out of line, so this is always a pleasant interlude from real life. I enjoy seeing how personally some folks take the points.

Keep a good sense of reality check on the '41' and def don't assume people in real life are anything like their forum identities. Carry on.

And again you should reflect on yourself.

Have i called u or anyone else on this forum a name?

Read my responses - they are Much more civil and at least nonpersonally attacking than the original responders such as yourself. Even if ive argued theyve all been logically based and bot personal unlike many here.

If youre so offended by my reasoning just hit mute poster. If you keep coming back you know what sort of entertaient is in store on this lively thread.
