is it possible to get a set of good carbon fiber wheels for under $700?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

is it possible to get a set of good carbon fiber wheels for under $700?

can I find carbon fiber wheels that are durable and aero that cost about $700 or less? or are there non-stop wheels that are a good alternative? (for example, I was looking at mavic ksyrium elite wheels)

IMO if you aren't racing pretty much any wheel will do just fine.

If you are racing or your taste is coming from a racing background then you wouldn't be asking this to start with

A lot of wheels moving around for that price.

Not name-brand, but right about $700, including tubular tires. They've held up fine under this clyde. Happy with them so far.

If your willing to buy used - yes. New, it looks like you'll need to bump up to ~ $1,000. Boyd, Williams, Reynolds, etc.

These can be had for very close to what you're asking for.

While they might be great wheels, I think I'd always be worried about durability and fear they would turn out to be fake carbon fiber

Boyd has carbon wheels that are real close to $700 plus or minus, that are built up and you dont have to wait for. You can order directly off the web site.

Vueltas are great, it's a shame you didn't get on that deal. I only have experience with a couple sets of aluminum lower end Vueltas (Corsa Superlites, Corsa Pro), but they were always perfectly true with smooth bearings and it allowed me to get a ~1500g wheelset for less than $300. I'm sure their carbon wheels are a great deal as well. Someone will chime in and say you get what you pay for, but I haven't seen anything bad written about those wheels anywhere.

Many, many, many bikeforums members rolls PSIMETs. Me included. From a value to performance standpoint, Rob absolutely kills it and makes a wheel that is designed for YOU. never off the shelf. For carbon i run the team issue 50mm/58mm tubulars on the road; built for my weight, they are super light, yet plenty stiff. Second season on them racing everything for RR to crits and have never had to true em.

Right now ProBikeKit has them for $495.
I bought a pair last fall for about that from my LBS (demos) and have been satisfied. They are not fully carbon, and are not deep dish.

Everyone says this, but I've tried to contact the guy twice and didn't hear back after either attempt. At this point I am going to pay more elsewhere just to get some level of service.

that's not a good sign. you definitely want someone who is responsive when it's custom. could it be because it's the holiday's?
