Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I have no connection to this listing but this thought came to mind while reading it...aside from teaching your kid to ride early, s/he can learn to from an early age that such ideas like "$2,500 Titanium Tricycle Seems Reasonable" are completely rational and justifiable.

I thought this thread was going to be about a ~25 year old concerned that they'd look too old man-ish riding around on a Merlin.

His tires are mounted backwards.

This is clearly for the kid that already owns the entire library of Wii games and is too bored to get out of bed in the morning.

My daughters started on a Trek Trikester, which was over $200 and well over 30lbs. It was good for pedeling but bad habits for leaning/balancing.

So I started my son on a balance bike. He flies on it.

I'd buy it but the white wheels and fork look a little dorky. My toddler prefers her s*** murdered out.

That is rediculous. Sorry, no freaking way would I spend that much on a trike for a toddler. Get a balance bike instead. Way cheaper and they will actually learn some skills.

Tricycles are a bad idea as are training wheels. Start right off with a push bike. By 3 they should be able to pedal, so get a pedal bike then. Ti push bike or pedal bike is a fine idea, though. Here's a selection:
https://www.balancebikeshop.com/

I first saw these in the Czech Republic, where they are ubiquitous. You walk, the kid rides, easily keeps up, and enjoys the outing.

if i had money to waste i still wouldnt do it as i would rather they learn on a blance bike instead but if the kid has problems and needs a seat then why not (only if i had that kind of money).

Rather than get a push followed by a pedal, just get one - I plan on getting a pedal bike and leaving the BB empty until the boy can balance.

No, he's not getting Ti or CF.

Wow, somebody bid 750 USD and won.

One of the selling points for the listing was that Ti is pretty much indestructible in case the kid wraps the bike around a tree but there are bigger issues if your kid is wrapping bikes around the tree consistently.

Which brings us to a more important issue...

Are Flinstones Chewable Vitamins like the gateway drug for roadies? Start them young, progress to testosterone and then to full-on blood transfusions and EPO before hitting puberty?
