Hey guys, I'm new to the forums and was wondering if...
anyone may have experience with the 2012 Masi Partenza, my LBS currently has one on sale and I'm considering picking it up for the next season. It's all stock, except for the tires which aren't the standard Kenda's but are the Vittoria Rubinos..

I bought my first new bike on a layaway...
Did you test ride it?
Is it a good fit?

I haven't got the chance to test ride it yet, I'm taking in my 87 Gitane Victoire for a tune up in a few days here and I'm testing it then, but the fit is good, it's a 56 and I can straddle it flat foot with minimal touching, so it's comfortable. I read one review that said it didn't last over 500 miles, and I put easily 50 miles a day on my Gitane, so at 500 miles it wouldn't last me over a month according to that person.. But I don't know if that's just him being an idiot, got a lemon, or if that's what really happens, he said that he contacted Haro/Masi and they told him just to get a cable sleeve.

500 miles?? really, where did that review come from? You can get 500 miles out of a bike from wally world or Target, and those bikes are not very good bikes at all. I would ignore that review.

That's what I figured, here's what this guy had to say. I still think it's a good investment. I need a good bike for distance instead of using my vintage, I'd rather dedicate that to a trainer.
Date Reviewed: December 1, 2011
Strengths: Looks
Weaknesses: -Poor frame design ruins frame after 500 miles.
-stiff as a wet noodle under sprints/climbs
-heavy frameset compared to other entry bikes
Bottom Line: I was attracted to this bike because of the paint and curved seat stays. At first the bike was comfortable and a joy to ride, but not for long. At about 500 miles I noticed the front derailleur was getting harder and harder to shift. I looked at the cable guide on the bottom bracket shell and the cables had dug into the bottom bracket shell. Turns out the 'brilliant' minds, and I use that term loosely, decided that they would make the only aluminum frame on the market that would not use a plastic cable guide on the bottom bracket shell. It has been more than a month since my shop contacted Haro (company that owns Masi) about the frame and all they have suggested is that I run a cable sleeve. That was the first thing I tried after noticing the problem and it didn't work at all. Not to mention the damage has cause structural damage to one of the highest stress points on the frame, so it needs to be replaced. They still haven't offered a replacement.
Oh, and btw, I've ridden steel bikes that were laterally stiffer, only good for less than 500 miles of recreational riding.

Welcome to BF and the 41, pics of the Gitane would be nice as would some of the Masi if you get it. The guy that did the review is full of crap. I know of several people with Masi bikes around our area and on BF. I have not heard of such as he claims. Sounds like he has an axe to grind. Test ride it for a good epriod of time and for distance, if they work a good price and will fit the bike to you, buy it. Best of luck.

Thanks! I can take some pics of the Gitane tonight, but I actually just took the rear wheel off to get it trued up, so bear with me and I'll have some pics up within the next 15 minutes or so. Should I upload them here (dslr quality) or should I upload them and hyperlink?

My wife has a Masi Alare, about 3 years old. Last year I noticed the cable to the front derailleur was cutting into the chainstay weld. It was not too bad as I caught it before it had done any real damage, it had just worn through the paint and was starting to cut into the weld. I took it to the shop where we bought the bike and they installed a teflon sleeve (the black tube, it has some white paint on it from where I painted the weld underneath). This seems to have solved the problem. The rear derailleur cable does not have this problem as it does not touch the weld, but I think next time that cable is replaced it would be a good idea to put a teflon sleeve there too.
