Powertap Elite+ or Pro+ Routine Maintenance
Just bought a PT. I've searched the forums and web about routine maintenance. Most folks say to check the drive side and non-drive side bearing and clean/lubricate the pawls. I've done maintenance on my Mavic hubs, but wondering if there are other unique things I need to do w/ PT hubs.
Also, I cant find any good info on how to replace the drive side bearings (heard they are open/loose bearings...wow).
Thanks.

Depends on your model. Only the older wired ones are loose bearings. Don't mess with the bearings or replacements unless you know they are shot and need replacement.
There is no regular maintenance needed. The more you mess with it the more problems you could have. Hard to keep people from tinkering but remember -these are designed with the people who NEVER want to touch their bike except to ride it in mind.

Sorry just noticed you have the + models....no maintenance needed. The drive side bearings are cartridge. Don't f with it unless you. Know what you're doing.

The only thing you should ever have to do with your PowerTap is replace the batteries. That's about all the maintenance it needs.
I've ran mine for nearly five years, about 35,000 miles, without needing to do anything other than change the batteries.

Thanks Psimet2001 for that info!
1. How would I know the bearings are shot...starts to get gritty and feel drag?
2. Best place online to order replacement bearings?
3. Assume freebody easy to replace (based on the youtube videos I've seen)?

I had no issues with my Powertap Pro+ that I rode for about 12,000 miles. Including a lot of miles in rain, sand, dirt, etc. I wiped it down every once in a while and replaced the batteries every 4 months or so. That was it.

relatively new to the powertap thing. got a handme down powertap 2.4 (right before ant+) this summer. had no issues with it at all. readings seemed normal / within reason. However, recently i've become super human. the power numbers are ridiculously high. like 80-120watts high. when i coast (not pedaling) the watt reading do not go down to 0 anymore it goes between ~80-120. it does go to 0 if i stop the bike completely. Any suggestions? or will i have to fork over $350 to get it recalibrated?

Check your zero offset/stomp test. Read up on it online or call them and they can walk you through it. Otherwise - take the cash and put it towards a G3 or current Pro. The electronics are different - allowing this issue to be a thing of the past.
