Do you wear a helmet on Rollers?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Do you wear a helmet on Rollers?

Do you, or would you wear a helmet on rollers? I think all roller beginners should wear a helmet !! We always say that in order to learn you should place them in a doorway. Seems like a good place to whack your head! Even guys that are on rollers all the time, should we wear helmets? I meen accidents do happen.
Should we dress as we do on the road? First thing that I do after building a bike is to run it on Rollers, You can make most of the adjustments before even taking it outside. I know I sweat up a storm on rollers, but I always feel funny when heading back outside after a prolonged stint, as in weeks before heading out. How does it feel to the rest of you when you put that helmet back on after weeks without it? Bottom line should we wear it?

After weeks in a doorway, I think it's much more important to be protected when you get out on the road....

Knee, elbow pads at a minimum, and chest protector, full face helmet are prudent.

A friend of mine fell while trying out some rollers at a bike shop and got a big gash on his head from the corner of a shelf. He should have also worn a paper bag on his head.

Living in Minnesota and being rather wimpy means I do a lot of riding on my Kurt and on my rollers. I have to say that I never really notice a difference going from inside riding (helmetless) to outside riding (helmet always), even during stints when I may go back and forth between the two in the same week.

If you sweat a lot you could try putting a fan on in front of you, but I wouldn't worry about hurting your head in a fall. Even after many, many miles on my rollers I still use them in a hallway (facing a mirror to watch myself--this is the 41 after all...) so any kind of theoretical slippage (which hasn't occurred in God knows how long) could be stopped with a quick elbow out to catch myself--or worst case I'd fall into the wall and get wedged without being injured.

And who knows, maybe not wearing a helmet will give you more incentive to ride correctly and not fall

Should I start wearing my coat in the Summer? Otherwise it feels strange when I put it on in the Winter.

As far as rollers go and riding in the door way. I've had my shoulders hit the wall but never my head. Instinct is to tilt my head away from the wall.

If it makes you feel safer thus more inclined to use your rollers, go for it.

YA'll are SO FUNNY! I had a crazy roller accident involving a wall and a dog. Riding on the rollers oblivious to everything except for the digital clock on the wall counting down to my final minutes, went for an all out sprint , before the cool down, when my dog entered the room, I must have looked crazy to him so he jumped on my back! I went flying off to the side and right in to the wall! Left a 2ft streak down the wall with my head! Everything was quiet except for the spinning of my rear wheel, the sound was deafening! As I slowly opened my eyes i could make out a shape, as the image got clearer , I could finally make it out as the dog who was sitting there looking at me. I might have been delerious ! Because the more I looked at him, It actually looked like he was laughing at me!! Damn dog!!!

LOL, its all in fun. If you feel safer wearing a helmet then by all means do so. I never did, but I never felt the need.

thanks for taking the jokes so well. Most New members would throw a tantrum and never come back.

As if riding on rollers wasn't torture enough, add to the claustrophobia with a helmet.
