Anyway, pedals should last a good long time. My hope is that these pedals should be of high enough quality all around (subcomponents and materials) that they will provide long service life with little to no trouble. Time will tell. If they're anything like the LOOKs that I've owned in the past, they should last pretty much forever.

Awesome thanks for the heads up. Shaves off a 1/4 lb from my current 105 pedals. Just ordered some.
Backcountry just listed them for the same exact price BTW

Looks like an opportunity to get some nice pedals for next to nothing, with the risk that replacement parts will likely be difficult to come by 10 years down the road.

Pedals will last a long time as long as you don't abuse them (crashes, bashing curbs with pedals, dropping the bike, etc), but then again, the pedals would be the least of the worries in such circumstances. The Mavic's look like modified LOOK engagement (they used to be LOOK-licensed alternatives with the same mechanism), which is a pretty straightforward system mechanically, so should prove to be v very reliable in my estimation. The other longevity item is bearings. Most pedals are re-buildable and the bearings are serviceable. I'm going to dig into these a bit more to see if any tech documents were made for servicing.

I pretty much don't keep anything for 10 years, so i'm cool with that. I would assume we can get cleats for atleast the next 3-5 years.

I'll see how I like the pedals first, then see if I can find a deal on the cleats, and pick up 5 sets or so.
I bought 2 sets of pedals, cause the deal was waaaaaay too good to pass up. Lighter than Dura Ace for the cost of 105? yes please.

They are the same store: https://www.backcountrycorp.com/corpo.../1/stores.html
Which is why I said you should order from Real Cyclist (once again, same company), since they have the cleats.

Picked up a second pair, couldn't resist at that price and free shipping with lifetime returns if anything goes wrong.

Cleats are available with either 0 or 7 degrees of float. The pedals come with 7 degree cleats.

Thanks for the heads-up on this!
I just scooped a pair and a set of the 0Ί cleats just for the hell of it (and the combined free shipping).
I see that Performance sells the 7Ί cleats for the same price, $20, so I'll try the 0s immediately, and if they don't fit my needs, I'll pick up a backup pair of 7s from Performance just to have around in case the parts go bye-bye.
Even in the worst case scenario, at $55 bucks, if I only get two seasons out of a pair of cleats, I won't be crying over spilt milk. These are pretty trick pedals for CHEAP.

I bought a pair of these pedals, and got a nice pair of mavic thermo plus shoe covers for $30 off. Hope it makes me happy this year
Is there even a difference between certain pedals instead of the obvious wear and tear (which my current cleats are brutal!!) and very small weight differences?

Everyone is different, but I would say estimate somewhere around 8-10,000 miles (1 year for me, which I think is typical) for a set of cleats, and pedals should last several years...unless you really abuse them.

Good idea. There is the coupon forum but I don't think "current online deals," which imo is sticky-worthy. I know rbr has one and it's been useful for me. It's called "Hot Deals" on rbr.

My problem is I have 4 bikes and 3 pairs of shoes all using old school look type pedals, so swapping to a different cleat setup would add up

I'm not affiliated in any way. I saw these while perusing CC and am passing it on for those who may be looking for new pedals.

Looks like my pedals landed at a UPS warehouse 90 miles from my house. But, since UPS does not deliver on weekends, they'll sit there till Monday.

Still kicking.
