Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

What do you think of the Bib trend? Worth the shot?

Hi,

It has become very popular in my area (CA) to wear a Bib (suit). I find it a bit strange, or maybe I just got used to wearing a Jersey and Shorts.

Can anyone advise on this?

Thanks.

Nothing new and not a trend. There's a reason its popular. Try it, you'll like it.

THe trend started around, oh, 1980 or so. Before that most of us used suspenders. Then someone said, let's put chocolate and peanut butter together...

why would a grown man ride a bicycle if he is not homeless and can afford a car?

California is weird.

Bib suit - do you mean a skinsuit? Where the top and bottom are one piece?

I think he is talking about a skinsuit.
If not I like a jersey and shorts so my gut can hang out the bottom...

I suspect the OP is confused, but the Castelli Sanremo speed suit might fit the bill.

Definitely not a trend. Riders in my neck of the woods have been wearing bib shorts since the '80s.

I love them for road riding. Won't wear anything else on a road bike. Regular bike shorts sag/droop too much for my taste.

I got my first set of bib shorts last summer to try them out. Liked them so much that I got two others. There's definitely more to deal with when "nature calls", but they work well for me in terms of comfort.

I do have a riding buddy who tried bib shorts before I did and he hated them. So your mileage may vary.

i've found that so long as you have a full zip zersey, the hassle of taking a dump with bibs on is no big deal. If you have to pull your loaded jersey over your head to get the bib straps off, it's more of a hassle.

But the comfort and lack of shorts/jersey skin exposure is more than worth it either way.

Do these bib suits have jerseys attached to them, like a skin suit? Or just regular bib shorts?

What do you guys think about these shifter things by the brake levers? I think they are called brifters. I think it's a trend.

What about these weird pedals that require special shoes? THey are very popular but a bit strange.
