Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Which wheels should I keep?(help)

I just unexpectedly bought a used Felt F5 with five miles on it. My ? Is the bike has Mavic cxp22's on it that look nice but also look heavy. I have A New set of shimano R501-30mm deep semi areo wheels that I bought for another bike that I sold. Which set of wheels should I keep for the felt and which set should I sell?

Thanks for the help!

My Google search came up with just over 2100 g for the Mavics and 1900 g for the Shimanos; neither is particularly light. What kind of riding do you intend to do? Would you rather remove the freehub to lube the plastic bushing on the Mavics every so often, and change the cartridge bearings when needed; or repack the cup and cones in the Shimanos every so often? If it's a wash for you, pick the one you think looks better. If you do a lot of climbing, don't ride TT's or tri's, and are not a Clydesdale; I would say sell both and buy something lighter.

My plan is for this to be a one season bike and then go to back up/rain duty So I was hoping to use one of the two wheel sets I have.

I've put nearly 15000 miles on a set of CXP22's and only trued them once. I do 90% of my training on them and they've seen quite a few races.

They aren't light, they aren't pretty, but they will last. Unless you're racing frequently or just really want the bling factor the mavics are more than enough.

I have no experience w/ the shimanos, but on paper it doesn't seem like either is a good enough wheel to make huge gains.

From my experience Shimano wheels require much more attention than Mavics with truing and adjusting bearings. From what applies to this statement I've owned:
-SH-SR20
-Mavic CX22 (Formula hubs)
-Mavic Ksyrium Equipe

It's good to have a spare wheelset.

yup, never hurts. If one of them needs repairs or replacement it is nice to still be able to ride the bike, plus if you sell the bike you can throw the original wheels back on it.

Just curious, what offer did the guy accept?

1K shipped.

maybe I will just keep both sets. Or the idea of getting rid of them both for something better is not bad also.

Do you guys think the titans would be a better wheel the the cxp22s or the r501 30's ? Just don't want to spend a ton for a one year deal.
