Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Ok P-Cazzle, you're right...

I'd been getting progressively more fed up with the very laggy front shifting on my Rival, so I was figuring I'd replace it this spring with either Centaur or 5700. Then, this afternoon on the trainer, the left shift lever went all the way horizontal trying to get onto the big chainring. Like a loose tooth, I fiddled with it, and it fell off. So, off to the shop tomorrow.

My decision of which groupset to replace it with now has to happen much sooner.

SRAM seems to have pretty decent customer service when their levers screw up so don't give up just yet.

Oh, I'm sure I can get it replaced. The problem is, I was supremely annoyed by the shift performance already, so while I'll get the replacement shifter, I don't want to be riding that group this summer. I'll throw the Rival onto a bike I plan on building to ride a few miles to the pool.

I'd say 5700, but that's what I own so not surprising. I have been extremely happy with it and haven't adjusted the derailleurs since the last time I thoroughly cleaned the machine (way too long ago). Haven't ridden Campy or Sram because I've never needed to. My old generation Ultegra, 105, and even Exage stuff is still going strong. My .02 YMMV FWIW and all that.

Centaur ergo shifters will work with all your existing stuff. $140 from Ribble. You're welcome. Now get back to Craigslist dating.

Been dating a girl I met on Okcupid for almost a month now. Going great.

And wait, Centaur shifters will shift SRAM derailleurs?

Don't let it go to your head. You weren't right about DA 8000 - you need an editor. And I'm not springing for DA anyway - 11 speed would be Athena. I'm a trainer junkie who pulls the bike out for an occasional group ride when warm, and my tris.

Haven't tried it personally but it is one of the oft mentioned internet means of mating Campy shifters to Shimano wheels and cassettes. You could even try Veloce for $105.

And I know about the girl. I was kidding.

Set it up yourself? The reason I ask is I have Rival on my bad weather/trainer bike. It gets hammered. Never touched it once other than to replace the cables. No problem.

Just because you haven't had an issue doesn't mean others haven't. I have personally heard of a number of various level SRAM shifters and rear derailleur's going kaput for no apparent reason....

And yes SRAM has a good warranty from what I have heard from those with the damaged product...
