Any New Fizik Arione R1 and R3 Reviews?

The Arione and I have a solid relationship on the road (hate it while on the rollers). But my two year old saddle is getting pretty torn up around the nose and is in need of replacement.

Has anyone ridden the updated Fizik Arione R1 or R3? How does it compare to the older model? From pictures it seems as though there's less padding in all the models but I could be wrong. There are significant weight reductions with the lowest end model coming in at around the same weight as the old CX model. Is the comfort level the same all around?

I've just got a new R1, coming from an Arione carbon with carbon braided rails, there is really not much difference, the feel is the same
The nose is wider and more padded, the microtex surface is rougher and tougher than the leather, so not sure how well it will break in.
I have it set up perfectly level, so the extra nose padding is a bonus.

I've always ridden the carbon rails, so I can't really comment on the R3

Thanks, that sounds like it's going to work well. Just out of curiosity, what seat post are you running?

I'm running the carbon Pro Vibe seatpost 31.6m,

A point about the carbon rails they are not round, but rectangular with higher sides. That shape may not fit all seat post clamps.

I want to get one, using a Fizik Arione Kium now with a Fizik cyrano carbon seatpost and love the saddle. Had a Bontrager RXL Inform and not neary as nice as the Airone. Great company

I recently picked up a Fizik Arione R1 for use on the trainer because my S-Works Toupe was killing me (totally fine outdoors though.) I've done a few outdoor rides with the R1 and really like it so far. I have the rails slightly tilted up 1 degree or so, which yields a slight down slope on the seat, which is perfect for me. The microtex material feels quite durable and the carbon rails look stout, perhaps even a bit beefier than my S-Works Toupe.

I'm 175lbs right now (but have been as heavy as 190 on my S-Works ) and no issues with carbon rails, even over our very poorly maintained roads. I've only managed 45km as my longest ride with it (due to the weather/temps), but it feels like it will be better than my Toupe, which starts to bug me after 100km. The Toupe feels like it allows me to "dig in" better though with a bit less bounce than the R1.

I'm on a new r3 after being on a Arione cx. I like the wider nose, but not sure how i like the rougher material. Not as easy moving around on the saddle. Overall a solid saddle tho!!

I've had my R1 for a while now and it was a pretty good saddle but I didn't like how the "ribbing" / slats that run down the wings were wearing on my bibs. I was trying to figure out what ripped through my Sugoi thermal pants in the winter in the exact same spot on either side and, sure enough, I started noticing the same wear on my summer bibs. Looking at the saddle, those little depressions have rather harsh/defined edges and I think these start to wear on the shorts, especially if you like to move around on the saddle. I recently switched to a SMP Forma and couldn't be happier - the Fizik R1 was good but the SMP Forma just blew me away with how comfortable it is...especially since it has so much less padding than the R1.
