Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

N E 6 ft ers on here riding a 54cm?

Thinking about getting a cheap one just to see how I like it.

Edit, I have a 56 and 58, but I think the top tubes on them are a bit to long, just want to hear from 6ft with 54cm please.

Also got a fit scheduled, the guy was over a month out! and we still have another month of winter up here.

Unless your legs are really short, I'd probably go with a 56cm.

I always thought 6' tall with...
short inseam = 56cm and
long inseam = 58cm

Your knees will be close to hitting the handlebars on a 54cm

I would say the best size for you is a 52cm or even a 50cm if you want to get real aggressive.

Sorry to say - looks pretty clumsy and at times clown-like. I can say this as I rode a smaller race bike for a while. Fun, but very whippy.

That is because you are normal. If you have read many of the OP's post...and this is another in the same vane, you will learn he is a bit different. Why I suggest he consider a 52 or 50.

Actually I am not normal. I have a disproportionately long upper body. When the length is ok, I wish i could have a lower bike. The top tube always brushes my nuts.

What's normal? You say you have a long upper body. That mean's you have short legs for your height. What does most of the population have in common? Proportional appendage length. Short legs = short arms. Long legs = long arms. So you likely have a long torso and short arms. Arm length is as important as torso length when it comes to top tube length and reach. They are equal sides of the torso/arm pyramid.
Bike geometries come in all flavors and proportions, just like bodies. If you have short legs, ride a compact geometry. If you need slammed, buy a compact race geometry with long top tube. The number on the frame is incidental.

I am just shy of 5'11" and ride a 53. 120mm stem and a bunch of drop. Built solely as a crit bike.

Im 6'2 and ride a bike with a 51.5 seat tube and a 56 top tube. I use a 120 mm stem and it seems like it fits well. I tend to sit low on the bike and have my saddle all the way back on a 25mm set back seatpost. I have always felt that smaller bikes handle better and feel more stable in turns. The only downside is lots of toe overlap.

6' 3/4" with a longer torso. 58 cm frames fit best. Top tubes vary around 57 cm +/-. Stem reach = 11 -/+.

I rode shorter frames back in the mid-to-late 1970s, ~56 cm top tubes and standard 90 or 100mm stems. Thinking back on it, the setup was a bit cramped. Being young, I didn't notice...

I'm 6'0" and ride 56's - been fitted twice over the years and both came up 56. But I also have a 54 - put a longer stem on it and it's perfect.

I'm 6'1" with a 32" inseam so I am riding a 56. My knees almost hit the handlebars as it is. I'm sure you would be okay on a 54 if you went with a 120mm stem and a lot of seat setback though.

I know that and why I wanted to help. Get the 50. You will have massive seatpost showing and you will be soooo pro.
You really can't be fast unless you are close to a TT bike position. Shoot for 6 inches of drop.

I'm 6'2" with a 33" inseam riding a 57.5cm top-tube and 100mm stem and 16cm head tube. My annual fitting never seems to change almost anything.

Here, 5'11.5. Two of my bikes are 54cm, (vintage Voyageur, and a Roubaix Comp). I also ride 55, 56 and 58. The 54 and 55 are more natural fits, the 56 and 58s are tweaked a little to shorten the reach. My MTBs range from 17" to 19.5". I am all torso, short legs and reach. It's actually kinda cool, the charts are useless but you can fit yourself to a wide range. Where you can see the difference is the arm angle in the drops, on the hoods, and using aero bars.

Not all size 54's are the same.

My frame in size 50 has a similar length top tube as a 52 or 53 in many other brands.

If you need to bring in reach there are a number of ways to do that. Shorter top tube, shorter stem, taller head tube, more spacers under the stem. Everyone is different and im not a fitter so I dont know what would work best for you.

honestly I could probably get 6 inches of drop on a 54cm.
