Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

SRAM powerlock 10-speed. Does anyone reuse?

Has anyone here had experiences with reusing a Sram Powerlock 10-speed chain link?
Sram specifies that it is only good for a one-time use.
What are the dangers of reusing it?

The recommendation to use them only once is lawyer-generated. It protects SRAM in the event that someone mangles the thing when he or she removes it and tries to use it again. Be careful when you do it, don't reuse them a million times (they're cheap), and you'll be fine.

I'd suggest not reusing them. Broke one last year on a ride, ended up walking, and that was an 8 speed, stronger I'd assume. If you are going to reuse it, carry an extra on the road.

Not sure on the 10 speed (I have a fsa chain) but for 8 and 9 speed I have always re-used the master links a few times. Yet to have one break, but I also keep a spare. Less than $4 at the LBS for a new link

I clean and relube a chain about 4-5 times before it stretches past .75 on the Park Tool chain tool. To clean I remove the chain completely using the Park Tool chain pliers. I use the same Power Lock when I reinstall the chain but carry new ones in the saddle bag in case one breaks. None of them have broken so far.

I had one on my campy 10s chain when i first got it.
I used it repeatedly for chain cleaning chores.
When I replaced the chain after it stretched, I tried reusing the power link, and found that the link had stretched/worn with the old chain and was not the same dimension as the links on the new chain.
I stopped using them after that, I just close the chain when I replace it using campy methods, and keep the chain on the bike for clean and lube chores.

I reuse mine until I lose one piece, or bend one. I've never had one bend or warp. Never had any issues.

I've taken off the chain a few times and reused the SRAM link with no problems. Bit don't take my word for it.

Yep, reused them many times (Powerlock 10s) for thousands of kilometers, no problems at all. Blah blah blah your bike will asplode.

But a new come does come with every Sram chain, so it's not really a big deal to just put a new one on.
