Garmin 500 visual interface for setup needed

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Garmin 500 visual interface for setup needed

Nothing is impossible for the person that doesn't have to do it...

That said, why the heck do I have to click the silly little buttons forever on my Garmin 500 to set up the screens?

HEY GARMIN, or third party person:

Why not an interface that lets me use my computer to drag icons for the readings I want to each screen? Kind of like iTunes does for apps on the iPhone. Heck, make it web based and let me download it to my 500 when I get it set like I want it.

I'll bet a clever programer could do it. I'd pay some small fee.

So, get right on it, Garmin or other person.

Thanks. Other demands to follow as I think of them.

I agree. That would be a good thing to have.

One of the features I love about the Wahoo RFLKT. Very nice visual setup of screen layout and data fields from your iPhone.

Garmin keeps the source code proprietary so there's no monkeying with it by aftermarket developers, and there are no hooks to control those things via the usb port, so you're SOL, unless and until Garmin does it themselves, or opens it up to aftermarket developers. They may eventually do it, but don't hold your breath.

You may well be right, and I certainly have no experience.
But isn't the screen settings in a file that shows up in a folder when you mount the Garmin 500? ?
That must be reverse engineer-able by the clever.

But maybe Garmin will do it someday, though with my luck it will only be for newer units and not mine.
