Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Finally done with that ridiculous white bar tape.

Seriously, what's up with white bar tape? It's just ridiculous if you actually ride your bike. I went with a more sensible option.

Plate is for the local crit series, I'm too lazy to cut it off and zip tie it back on twice a week, and the rear light is because I went for a ride this morning in the dark, the front light came off for the tape change.

Fizik Microtex (white). Stays white enough even when it's dirty.

While I had white bar tape, I loved it. I changed it to green just to try it out but I still miss the white. I ride a fair amount ~180 miles/week but it wouldn't get overly dirty. I would clean it whenever I cleaned by bike and it always stayed pretty clean.

White tape is pro.

You need to be a pro, and have a mechanic regularly putting on new tape.

There are two kinds of cyclists: those who appreciate white bar tape and those who should.

I also like orange tape. It makes it easier for my kids to pick me out of the pack.

I'm not sure if I believe that, if they were touchy they'd just get it dirty.

My fellow Coloradan is correct. White tape looks great on a black bike. Your white bike should not be ridden after Labor Day.

Real men wear black.

I have white leather on several vintage bicycles and it is a little more work to keep that looking nice... the Fizik is some very nice tape.

As for lights... it seems that research indicates that they decrease your odds of becoming road kill especially when you ride at dusk or at night.

After black... cloth tape and shellac is my favourite.

I did these bars up five years ago and all they need is a little wipe down with soap and water to keep them looking great.

You cannot use white tape before Easter. I like the orange.
