Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Specialized Cobl Goblr seat post - Are they available? Worth waiting?

I just picked up my new Specialized Roubaix frame and it was supposed to come with the Cobl Gobl-r seatpost (sort of a funky design to smooth the ride a bit).

Anyways, the frame didn't have a seat post in the box, but included a note saying they are not shipping yet but will follow later. It struck me as odd that they'd ship a frame without the seatpost (and nobody told me or my LBS before it arrived). My LBS has a call into Specialized to get the scoop.

I'm wondering if this is just a shortage or if they are having quality or production problems with it.

Does anyone have experience with this seatpost or know what the supply issue is? Is it worth waiting on or should I just ask specialized to send me one of the regular s-works posts?

Not Quite yet. They have been telling us shops, but apparently yours didnt know. We Should see them soon, it is a Shortage, Made at the same factory as thier new wheels and they have the same issue as far as getting them. But nothing to worry about quality, just slow production and not enough for all the frames. But they are worth it. Pretty sweet, nice ride and you absolutly dont feel them move.

we are being told soon to now.

Thanks, sounds like it's worth waiting. I'll just run a regular post until the new one comes in. I've been wanting a new Roubaix for a while and finally decided to pull the trigger after a 100 mile day of chip seal with some gravel mixed in.

One came through the shop I work at a few weeks ago......
Maybe they're saving them for just the s-works frames for now
.

I hope you get yours soon, they seem like a really great piece of kit.

I would definitely hold pat and wait for it. From what I've read, it's a great post for adding comfort over rough stuff, and with virtually no weight penalty. The look has yet to grow me, however.

I think a lot of people, especially those with short seatpost extension from the frame, don't realize how much difference a seatpost can make, and would be good candidates to try the CG. Good seatpost extension allows the mast material to 'work' absorbing vibration and deflecting a bit. I like Ti on the dirt (mtb) and carbon on the road, but the CG looks like it might be the hottest ticket around for both taking the edge off hard hits on the road and general vibration damping.

My frame is an s-works, it's the only frame they come with I think.

Yeah, I personally don't care for the look but that's ok if it works well. There are a couple road races I do with their share of nasty roads and I'm planning to use this bike for those races as well as my training bike. I've got a tarmac as well, which will still be my crit bike where comfort isn't an issue.

I sooooo want one of those seat posts for my older 2011 SL2. Might be the last tiny piece to turn it into a magic carpet. Even with the Romin Evo Comp Gel seat the carbon wrapped aluminum seat post still puts a little too much vibration into my nether regions on our crappy backroads.

I've got one. Don't ask how. Long story.

But - it's cool. It works. The only weird thing is that you still feel the vibrations in your feet and hands, just not on your butt. That's...odd.

It's kinda jesus. Rode one on a test bike, and wow. As Mr. Chan mentioned, it's a bit bizarre, but awesome. It's more noticeable on road buzz than on the big hits.

I wonder what the lifespan is. Carbon designed to flex always has one, like their old S Works saddles.

I'm interested in one of these for my lowly SL2 Roubaix but as I understand it the post adds more setback due to its design. That wouldn't work for me with my current Avatar saddle since it's slid all the way forward on the rails of stock seat post.

My LBS has started getting in bikes with the seat posts but have not got any to send to the guys that bought bikes before they were available or any for sale individually yet.
I'll be getting one of them to put on my Secteur to tame some of the rough trails.

I have one of these, it's a great seat but I'm having trouble tightening it because it's rated for 90nm of torque. Might have to stop by the shop to get them to tighten it because mine is always slipping.

I like mine. Been riding them for 3 years now. Might be time to replace them. I'm well over the weight limit for them.

90nm********** You may want to stop before you break something.

LOL My bolt just exploded. Rookie mistake on my part, although I always found the seat not to be level after rides which is why I thought it needed 90nm but I completely misread it. Ahhh well nothing a $2 bolt at the hardwore or shop can't solve. Lesson learned.

In hindsight has anyone found their saddle slipping? I keep my saddle slightly tipped up if that helps. If so how did you solve it?

I have found that if you disassemble the clamp assembly and clean the old grease out of it and use a little carbon paste AND torque it to spec that they hold pretty good.
