Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I've had good experiences as well and equally fast shipping. Stuff gets here faster than it does with many US-based vendors.

I got this (and its corresponding front hub) that built into a really nice set of CX (or wide-rim road) wheels.

Yah, I bought a couple Novatec hubs from him recently, too. One arrived in three days, but only because I missed the delivery guy on day two.

In all honestly it took us nearly a year to get to this point.

We ended up signing a contract with FedEx. The upside is fast shipping. The downside are duties and 'advancement fees'. We decided to arrange our system so that ALL DUTIES AND ADVANCEMENT FEES are paid by BDop Cycling and NOT by our customers. We take a loss every now and then on smaller orders but we are banking on the faster shipping increasing sales and offsetting the secret hidden FedEx fees.

We used to use EMS or the customer's local postal system (USPS, for example) but deliveries were all over the place and tracking was...sub par...We had too many emails with customers asking where the heck their order was meaning that we had to track from our side and often came to the same dead end as our customers only to have them freak out and the package arrive the next day.

Not good.

The final push came when we read some bull**** comments planted on another website (that copied our business model) talking crap about how great they were and how we sucked because we were all the way in Taiwan so shipping would be slow (along with the implied trust issues).

Those kinds of business practices really piss Bob off so now we ship 2~4 days WORLDWIDE for a flat rate.

/end plug

It's funny because years ago I thought of you as a shill, but you've proven to be a very reputable businessman.

You'd think I was a shill based on the amount of Novatec hub recommendations I give out.

I've used 6 sets so far, and will easily use more. They are my go to hub. Cost to quality ratio is through the roof. Light, serviceable, couldn't ask for more.

Another +1 for BDop.

What ever happened with those "aero" hubs?

BTW, you get what you pay for with Novatech. Some are great, some not so much.

I never actually asked the R&D guys. I though it was interesting but, as with all industrial production, if the demand isn't there to support the costs of production products just won't make it to market.

I also think that the market went in another direct so Novatec adjusted their product line accordingly.

Shill just means a bystander working undercover for the business he is recommending. It would be hard for Bob to be a shill, when his business association is so clearly evident. But more importantly, despite BDop's nearly constant posting, I have NEVER seen him flogging his own business. He may use it to demonstrate a marketing or technical point, but he never talks up his business to generate business.

In fairness to Coach Boyd, Psimet, Dave November and others, let me say they also conduct themselves very ethically.

I try pretty hard not to do that as it clearly violates forum rules. It is difficult sometimes but I was a forum member before I was a business owner so I try to approach it from there.

Very true about all of them.

Years ago there was another guy that built wheels(MG), but for some reason his business seemed to become sketchy. His product was great, but customer service became an issue in the end.

I just placed an order yesterday and was a bit concerned when I got the FedEx shipment notice since I've heard of the sometimes ridiculous "brokerage fees". Now knowing that I won't have any additional fees and the fact that expected delivery for my order is tomorrow, .

That being said, I had no problem with the old shipment method, but this does indeed give me more of a reason to shop with BDop.

I'll say that you have always come across as an honest straight forward individual. You, Psimet and the others have been very good about how you approach the BF membership. I see the shills and the hit and run spammers here all the time and cannot stomach their methods or morals. Well done Bob, very well done. I suspect that you and Rob will have orders from me in the future, doing business with people like you and Rob is a pleasure. I'm waiting for you answer to Rob's ride commercial using the AT&T theme though.

Bill
