Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Specialty bike stolen in So. Fla. Please help recover!

If you are a cyclist or Triathlete in So. Fla, you know who Hector Picard is. For the rest of you, Hector lost both arms in an accident about 20 years ago at age 19. Despite this, he is a multi Ironman triathlete and a motivational speaker.

Last night some scumbags broke into his car and stole his bike, fitted with special adapters that allow him to shift and brake with what remains of his left arm. Obviously this is a difficult to replace item, and Hector is scheduled to ride from Miami to Washington State to raise $ and awareness for baby born with out arms. Here is a like to Hector's site:https://www.facebook.com/hector.pica...59930764111641

Please keep an eye out for anyone trying to pawn off or sell his bike.

Thieves Suck

I saw an "ad" on CraigsList about another stolen bike. The victim posted the "ad" to get publicity and perhaps get leads to it. Try that too ??

The depth of human depravity never ceases to depress me.

Here's a pic of the bike so all you Floridians know what to look out for:

This. Guy. Is. A. Bad. Ass.

Good lord, I really hope someone can help him get his bike back.

bobthib, has anyone tried to take this to the local news? I'll bet that it even has network potential. I have a couple of friends at CNN that I'll try to pass it on to.

ant, great idea! I'll notify WSVN. This is right up their alley. Add to it his upcoming cross country fund raiser, this might be a silver lining. BTW, your photo didn't post, but I just put it in my post.

And Homebrew, that is also a great idea that I did pass on to him.

Here's more on Hector. Two of the local TV stations picked up on the story:

https://www.nbcmiami.com/news/local/1...205885071.html

https://www.wsvn.com/news/articles/lo...mputee-s-bike/

And another amazing local special athlete made the news today this time on the national level.

13 y/o quad amputee running to raise money for Boston Marathon victoms: https://video.cnbc.com/gallery/?video=3000165476#

I am honored and humbled to say that I have met both of the amazing people. True inspirations.

So, what do I have to gripe about? How about you?

I have a plate in my foot that hurts all the time, no cartilage in the opposite knee and surgery in 4 days on my bad-foot ankle... and yet I dont' think I have anything to gripe about either.

I hope he gets his bike back - thieves suck.
