Opinions Wanted!! This bike...
...as in, this bike ==> https://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...MakeTrack=true
I would convert to downtube friction shifters, of course. The Phil hubs caught my eye (quite expensive, new). Only 2500 miles on the bike (though they look like rougher, wetter miles). Some wear and tear is evident.
Thanks!

In fact, I prefer a cro-molly, steel bike, too. No carbon-fiber anything. And 6-speeds would be fine with me.
Sorry...but you did ask.

More control for me, less control to the technology. Fewer moving parts. Less frequency of repair; hardly anything to go wrong, really.

But man, I'm liking your logic lots and lots. Fewer moving parts, less frequency of repair...awesome! That's the kind of thing I'm looking for in a bike. Simplicity = good.
Now Im glad I asked

Here's one with no STI, no carbom fiber anything and less than six speeds:

I see one like that in Prospect Park all the time. Same orange color. His has downtube shifters, too.
I've been riding dt shifters all of my adult life (I'm 50) up until 2 weeks ago when I picked up my new ride, with Campy Ergo. I'll stay with the Ergo myself.
But simplicity does have its merits. My old Campy SR has never needed repair, only an occaisional adjustment to the cable tension, and cleaning, otherwise untouched for 20+ years. When I put a Shimano 9sp wheel on with a new chain last year, the campy shifted better than ever, and all I did was adjust the stops.

The frame is fabulous and a very pretty color. I want a Rivendell, but I admit for shallow reasons. (pretty) For this price its worth it for a handmade frame of this quality.

Don't be afraid of technology... You should at the very least give it it's day in court before condemnation!

OK, pace...shows us YOUR bike, if this one is so ugly to you. Give the rest of us (i.e. me) a chance to critique your wheels. I bet you have one of those new-fangled paint jobs with firey decals and speckles, huh??? Probably STI, too.
Just havin' some fun with ya, dude.

Smokey, I think you're gonna love this bike. If it's the right size and you can get it in your price range grab it.

Downtube shifters....horrible. Just horrible.....(my frame had too much distance between top tube and doowntube). The reach was just too far.
Now Bar-ends to me make more sense.

OMG! That bike is so.................so................NEW! Seriously, nice ride pacesetter. But do you know what would look REALLY gay???- downtube shifters on YOUR bike
All four of my bikes are steel and have downtube shifters. One day I'll get around to putting together a nice CF bike w/Campy CF comps.
Well, not any day soon

I found that technology is nothing to be afraid of...try it you might like it. If you get the bike, ride it around before pulling the sti off. I have steel, carbon and alu/carbon mix...and I also have a non index shifting downtube bike...I love them all...

Paint job: Stripes! VERY gay.
STI: For weanies who don't have the balance - or are too afraid - to take their hands off the brake levers. Gay.
CF/Alum: *Yawn* Everybody's riding one. Gay AND boring.
I like your tile, however. ;D
P.S. Strictly a tongue-in-cheek reply, for those who might find the "gay" reference offensive. I mean no disrespect to any person, persons, or life-style.
