Coffee Shop's Rude SignTo The Cycling Community

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Instead on capitalizing on a huge event at his store front, the coffee shop owner chose to close his business due to the inconvenience of a large crowd. There are creative ways to get your employees to and from work, so I'm not buying the safety crap. If wouldn't put a foot in the door after that slam. Ijut.

Maybe his employees could have tried riding their bikes to work. You know, in the spirit of things.

Yelp is a hilariously appropriately named service. The whole social media thing is turning us into "post first, think later, usually with regret" idiots. The Government doesn't need to compile a database about us, when we post everything and more on Facebook, Twitter, Yelp, and the like. There should be a warning: "Do Not Drink and Text!"

Spandex-wearing jerk cyclists being dissed by hipster coffee snobs, is a veritable battle of the stereotype all-stars! This is surely an A&S-worthy topic. I feel irritated just reading all the yelpy snarkiness and signfull of snobbiness, generally.

For some reason, I associate the word "spandex" with women at the gym, and so find saying "I put on my Lycra bibs to go riding" slightly less emasculating.

Plus, MAMIS doesn't sound as good as MAMIL.

I like to ride with my Ethiopian espresso in one hand and my other hand free to flip waving cyclists off.

I bet not. This is what kills many bike races, small business folks who lose business on race day. It happens all over; it is why many races move out of the down town area or even out of the town.

Why, because most business comes in the form of people in cars.

Our local downtown crit was almost lost years ago due to protesting business folks. It was moved to the edge of downtown. The Amgen was lost to us due in part to the entire downtown being closed for the finish.

Perhaps that "business" owner has forgotten how much coffee cyclists and fans consume, as well as, how much they could pay for said cup of coffee since they're so rich.

One things for sure though: He has received copious amounts of free publicity.

No, Lycra is a subset of spandex: Brand names for spandex include Lycra (made by Koch subsidiary Invista, previously a part of DuPont), Elaspan (also Invista), Acepora (Taekwang), Creora ... (with thanks to Wikipedia).

He is free to say what he wants . We are free to not spend money in his shop . Pissing off a whole demographic section of your customers isn't good business, just ask the Dixie Chicks
