Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

womens frame vs mens frame for a guy

The local LBS owners is always trying to get me to "upgrade" my bike. The latest thing is he is having a sale on Felt frames. He left me a message saying he ordered a topline felt frame in my size that I could get for $1449 which sounds like a pretty good deal. I called him back to find out the specific frame and he said it's the ZW1, "It's almost the same as a 54cm Z1 frame" (54 is about the size I need). I did a little research and the geometry on a "medium" zw1 is similar but still a bit different (sometimes quite a bit different)then the Z1...

I'm 5'8 155lbs. Are there any other considerations I should be thinking of?

I'm under no obligation to get the zw1 frame but he did make the option available to me. I sent him a text back asking how much for a z1 frame a short while ago but I haven't gotten an answer back yet.

Here are links to the two frames:

Ride it; if it fits and feels good it matters not if it is male/female geometry.

I do wonder why, after placing an order, his first act is trying to sell you on a women's frame. Why not just order you the Z1 in that size? Unless Felt themselves is blowing it out.

Hey, it's black and white. Can't imagine anyone would notice.

he did say it was a felt blowout sale - I hope they are 2013 models instead of 2012 or even older.

yes, that is definiately the biggest factor - if it fits. Might be kind of hard to test ride it since it's a bare frame though.
