Help me pick out a new bike? God knows you love doing this. ;)

As per a previous post, I have decided to sell my down-tube shifting Trek 1000 & buy a new bike off craigslist. I have a grand total of $800 to spend, which can get me quite a bit if I play my cards right.

I have gone on craigslist and narrowed the list to $500-$1000 , searching 'road bikes' in the entire post within Miami Dade.

http://miami.craigslist.org/search/b...00&maxAsk=1000

From this list, my favorite bike is a Specialized Allez Sport, namely because I'd feel proud riding it around, and that's important to me.

http://miami.craigslist.org/mdc/bik/3790725909.html

Also, it brings a computer & some other cool extras. The components may all be low-end, though.

Anyway, what I'm hoping to get out of this post is either approval or a gentle nudge to another bike.

I'm 5' 8" with a 86 cm (33.85 inches) inseam, and I'm gonna be riding around pavement for miles & miles; bikes are my form of transportation. My old trek had a 54 cm seat tube, which was ever so slightly too short, but not unusable; something like a 54-56 cm would be ideal, but manufactures like to vary their measurements unfortunately.....

This one's great too, and apparently has Ultegra components, but, well, I know nothing of tri bikes, or whether they can even be used for road bike commuting.

bump.....?

Don't get a tri bike for regular riding.
The Specialized looks expensive for a well used Sora bike.

ps. God has nothing to do with me responding.

Distinguished 06-01-13 08:58 AM

Guess that explains why people didn't respond; I meant 'god' in the 'goodness' kind of way, like, emphasis, you know?

I'm agnostic leaning toward atheism, if that makes you feel better...

This is a pretty decent bike.

Prettey good deal if you have a set of wheels laying around

Go look at this one.

56-58 cm might be your best fit.

This would be my choice. Offer less for chip. Cover the chip with a sticker of sorts.

I can't see someone who is 5'8 riding a 58cm. I'm 5'8 and riding a 50cm BMC. No way a 58cm is going to fit him.

What is your cycling Inseam?

Mine is the same as the ops. I ride a 60cm BMC, a 61 Specialized, and a 60 cm Felt.

Next time, instead of God use either Gaya our Mother Earth who is really pissed that her children are despoiling her with CO2 and acid rain, or Papa Darwin whose creative genius accounts for the marvelous diversity we see in the biological world, and to whom we are thankful for Life itself. Sort of.

Distinguished 06-01-13 04:25 PM

Got the CAAD 9 for $700.

BIG, MASSIVE difference from the Trek.

It came w/ some add-ons like a seat bag, some Co2 cartridges + adapter, an inner tube, a tire lever, & two LEDs.

Thankfully, the 58 cm Cannondale fit like a glove. I'm exactly 2.5 cm away from the top tube & my knee intersects the pedals.

That said, the horizontal position is not perfect; when I'm on the drops I can see the hub of the front wheel. The hub is UNDER the handlebars when I look at it while riding, I'm guessing that means the stem/top tube is too long, and I'll have to get a stem that's shorter.

As for the components, it has 9 speed shimano 105 derailleurs & levers, Gossamer 50/34 T cranks, VP platform pedals, Tektro brakes (I have ultegra Br6600 I can put on it), and I haven't inspected the cogs or chain yet. Wheels are made by Shimano w/ black Vittoria Zaffiro Pro Slicks (I have white Zaffiro Pro II's I might replace them with later on). Seat is Prologo Kappapas, & I'll get to know the other parts in a few.

What do you all think so far? ^_^

That's what I said. I have a 33 inseam and I'm on a 50 cm BMC SLR01. I would have to have orangutan arms to ride a 58.

Turbo231 06-01-13 08:55 PM

Are you sure a Free Spirit 3 speed with a bent fork isn't for you?

Yeah I'm almost 5'9.5" with a 31.5 inseam and I ride a 54 cdale. I couldn't imagine a 58. I would like to see a profile picture of this guy on his bike after he sets it up.

I'm sure that bike made many people happy (no sarcasm intended)
